Re: what did you have tonight

Yes. I agree Morrison's are excellent when it come to meat as they are proper butchers, unlike Waitrose/M & S who have their meat portioned and brought into store. Last night used up the left over leek and cream sauce but added sliced chicken breast and mushrooms. Served with pasta for him and cabbage and sprouts for me. I don't know why I more or less stick to Slimming World as I've fallen off the wagon big time lol !

I am glad you agree, I always think your cooking seems very serious and competent - like the use of the sauce, just made for chicken breast and pasta. I have also been very dissapointed with L--- meat recently, tough stewing steak, tough pork chops - and I used to get good results, so it can't just be me!

I also go to two farm shops, but they are further away, and of course somewhat more expensive, although not as much as you could imagine.
So Morrisons is the local choice for meat from now on ...

Re: what did you have tonight

Simple Hairy Dieters beef Goulash last night with a mushroom rice, more than enough for me and very tasty.
We buy as much of our meats from costco but bulk buy when on offer, usually far better quality and cheaper than most supermarkets in our experience, we also buy the 21/28 day matured steaks from Lidl/Aldi and so far so good but the ready to cook in the bag chickens at Aldi are really good quality so we have found.

Re: what did you have tonight

Made a large batch of beef bolognaise, using some left over olives with plenty of garlic and herbs. Froze 3 lots for use later. I asked my lovely husband for a pasta maker for Christmas (silly me - he bought the most expensive one he could find, so have to use it !) We made some tagiatelle to go with the bologniase, which was quite good but there's room for improvement !!! I really want to make some interesting ravioli with exciting fillings, apart from that it's quicker and cheaper to buy pasta (better not tell him that )

Re: what did you have tonight

Spag bol last night , fresh parmesan.

Mullerlight yogurt.

I have Hills read that fresh pasta is a lot of fuss for no discernable gain , what do you think , is it any better to make your own , i am of course talking basic pasta , not exotic flavoured types.

PS just love fresh Gnocchi , especially in a mild blue cheese sauce , crack of black pepper , oh yes.

Thanks

Steve

Re: what did you have tonight

So today was a ****e day, no one will take ownership of dads condition at north Manchester hospital, BT were supposed to turn up to fit another line for Linsey but she was out at meetings all day so I was glued to the house, did they show ? No, they sent Linsey a text saying they couldn't find the house so they passed the job back although I was the primary contact number, so tonight was hairy dieters cod in Parma ham with a crispy crumb topping and a few oven chips, and a bottle of comfort wine to ease the passage

Pissed off Martin

Re: what did you have tonight

Fresh pasta is certainly a lot of fuss Steve and, like all cooking, you don't always get it right !! I'd stick to dried shop bought stuff. I will have to give the pasta making another go as my dear husband bought such an expensive one ! I saw one for sale in a charity shop a while back and that should have rung alarm bells ! Wish I'd bought that one, then I could have returned it for them to re-sell lol ! Back to last night - cooked another of those excellent Morrison's chicken crowns (under 3.00) cooked in a large dish with lots of roast vegetables for him, including roast beetroot, potatoes and onions covered in breadcrumbs mixed with parmasen cheese. I had celeriac and carrot mash with a good squeeze of lemon juice and oregano and some good old sprouts. All good.
