Windfall oranges

I am sure a lot of you that have orange trees suffer from an early loss of oranges dropping. What to do with them. Well I collect all mine and make marmalade. Dead easy.
Remove any pips and then chop the oranges up. I blitz them in the food processor, cover with boiling water and leave for about an hour. Then put them into the microwave and bring up to boil. Add sugar I weigh the oranges and add the same amount of sugar. Put back into microwave and stir every so often until the sugar has melted. When this is done put on for another 20-30 minutes until it reaches setting point. I cannot give you a definite time as we had power cuts when I was cooking. But when it looks like marmalade it is ready. I have given up on the cold plate method and just look at the marmalade.
I have successfully done this method with oranges, lemons and limes and even chutney, so quick, so clean, so easy.

Re: Windfall oranges

my mandarins are still green, can you use this method with them before they are ripe?

Re: Windfall oranges

Babsgood: I had one green mandalina in the latest batch, when I cut it open it was orange so I would say yes. Afterall they sell them in the supermarkets green. Just try with 4 and see what happens and what the taste is.
