Chocolate Crickets

If you kill crickets naturally, you can make yourself chocolate-covered crickets!

You will need:

25 adult crickets

Several squares of semi-sweet chocolate

Directions:

Prepare the crickets for consumption by rinsing them off with water after placing them in a colander and covering it with wire screening or a cheese cloth.

Dry them by shaking the colander allowing the water to drain out.

Put clean crickets in a plastic bag and put them in the freezer for about 15 minutes to kill them if you havenít already.

Take them out and rinse them again as directed before.

You may want to remove the legs, heads, and wing cases before baking them at 250 degrees until crunchy.

When you are finished dry roasting the crickets, melt the squares of semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave.

Dip the crickets in the melted chocolate and lay them out to dry on a piece of wax paper.

Enjoy!

I've never believed recipes should be rigorously adhered to, be imaginative, if you don't fancy chocolate how about toffee?

Yes indeed and they are also considered to be good luck in Asia, especially in China. Some even believe killing crickets will bring bad luck!

So, you may just want to catch the cricket and keep it as a pet. You donít need to get a wooden cricket cage, either. All you need to do is put a layer of sand in a fruit jar, add a small bottle cap for water, and cover the jar opening with mosquito netting. Your pet cricket will eat bits of lettuce, dry oatmeal, melon or chicken bone.

Our cricket Jimmy, comes and goes as he pleases . He's had a bit of a hard life (he was born with only one back leg and so finds "pulling" the ladies hard enough) wouldn't dream of eating him, he's like the tadpole I never had .

Re: Chocolate Crickets

That's a very sad story Ted.
Nature is so harsh sometimes and you are obviously a very caring pet owner.
Got to go for a while, my eyes are filling with tears.

Hard life my foot, I met him in Marmaris a couple of years ago and he had all the ladies in the bar jumping for joy.
