Method: pre-heat oven 200c/400f/gas 6
sift flour (b.powder if using)
then rub butter into resemble fine breadcrumbs
add sugar & fruit
mix to a stiff batter with egg & milk
place 10 spoonfuls in a rocky heaps on a well greased baking sheet or baking paper (leave a little room for spreading out)

Mince and Dumplings, my Gran used to make Minced Beef Cobblers with the Dumpling Dough, lashings of Minced Beef and Thick Gravy, with full on buttered and fresh full fat milk mashed potatoes, yum yum.

Re: All Your Old Favourite Recipes & Childhood Food Memories

I have rock cakes in the oven

I have so many old fashioned recipes that I will share over time on here. Real rib sticking food as my Granny used to say.

Re: All Your Old Favourite Recipes & Childhood Food Memories

Boiled bacon & pease pudding
Beef broth with pearl barley
Steak & kidney pudding
Spotted dick
Bread pudding

Salivating now, good & hearty winter warmers, no calorie counting with this lot.

Re: All Your Old Favourite Recipes & Childhood Food Memories

In the early sixties we used to have a cheese flan at school--the school dinners were delivered in those days in large metal containers--this cheese flan was about an inch deep and i used to love it --never found it anywhere since--wish i could get the actual recipe--i used to love school dinners
