Help........the Germans are coming!!

I have a party of 17 Germans arriving tomorrow and they need feeding for the next three weeks, anyone have any recipes or know of any meals that would go down well.

I'm going with the usual chicken and meat dishes but wanted to combine our favourites with some that they would appreciate.

Also any desserts that might seal the deal.

I can google most but I prefer tried and tested, especially people's favs because they always seem to turn out well.

Looking foreward to any suggestions, or should I say I'm relying on my TLF'ers to come good on this one.

I'm thinking Bratwurst and Yorkshire Puddings, a twist on Toad in the Hole

Re: Help........the Germans are coming!!

Sausage and lentil soup
My mum is german and this has become a staple in my house. Comfort food and very easy to make:
Chop and fry a large onion in a large saucepan.
When translucent and starting to brown add freshly boiled water.
Add half a 250g packet of brown/green lentils or mix them.
Boil lentils for 10 mins.
Lower heat and add chopped sausage - I use U shaped Mattesons Pork sausage but any continetal garlic sausage with no skin would be okay.
After an hour or so add peeled and chopped potatoes, about one per person.
Add vegetable stock cubes and seasoning and quite a bit of vinegar to taste.
Cook until lentils and potato is soft.
Easy peasy - very tasty, healthy and ALL my kids like it....AMAZING!
Enjoy
When my husband was away in Afghanistan and I wasn't functioning properly we had this nearly every day.

Re: Help........the Germans are coming!!

Does it have to be German food? I am sure they want a break from Spitzkraut and Spaetzle.
