past use by date

i have just discovered that my jar of soy sauce has a discard date of june 2007. could this be the reason for hairs growing on the palms of my hands and my hair falling out?
what can be the effects of eating out of date food?

Re: past use by date

Hair on the head falling out is due to old age. Hair on the palms of your hands, different action all together.....

I disagree with Des... you are displaying classic signs of eating out of date food, especially soy sauce. xx

i am past my sell by--the hair has dropped but strangely i dont have hairy 'knuckles'--it must be the affect of being married!--i was a 'gay' old batchelor and best before dates were strictly ignored and i am suffering no ill affects apart from hairloss!

Re: past use by date

as a rule 'best before' means that the quality in some cases may be best before that date but is safe to eat after that date

'use by' means food should be eaten by that date

But if it smells alright and looks alright then i eat it, regardless of the date ! if it looks dodgy or doesnt smell as it should bin it

tons of food is wasted because good food that is not off is thrown in the bin, my step daughter used to throw everything away because of dates (she doesnt now)

the soy sauce may be pushing it at 2007 but ive used spices that old etc and never been ill due to out of date food

Re: past use by date

Did you know that you can eat out of date food but supplying it to the starving masses in the rest of the world is a big no no.

my wife was looking at the 'best by date' on aspirins yesterday! i thought they were natural and would last forever! apparently 3 years is your limit otherwise you just have to suffer!

Re: past use by date

Yes.. would you believe plasters have a use by date. In my job I used to dispose of so many out of date tablets, that were untouched ie paracetomol due to "policies and procedures" . Different matter at home though. xx
