Scottish culinary delights!!!!

Not content with messing up Mars Bars they are now ruining perfectly good butter by you guessed it........having it deep fried.

After the success of the deep fried Mars Bar, chefs in Scotland have devised the ultimate high-calorie snack with deep fried butter balls.
The dessert, made from frozen balls of butter and given a Scottish twist with Irn Bru batter, is already popular in the US.

Described as a "heart attack on a plate", the chefs at The Fiddler's Elbow in Edinburgh serve the sticky treat with Irn Bru ice cream and coulis.
For those wanting an even more potent version of the dish, called Braveheart Butter Bombs, a variation with whisky batter is also available.

OK it might not be "Healthy" but it may lessen the Barbaric Culling of The Haggis if this becomes popular and a Vegetarian replacement National Dish.

Couldnt agree more. Theres parts of Scotland thesedays where it is now almost extinct and can really only be seen in captivity often in barbaric conditions.

Re: Scottish culinary delights!!!!

Scottish 'cuisine' may not be the healthiest or anything to rave about but I'd go back to tomorrow for the vegetarian food I had there on a couple of visits to Edinburgh - really memorable, including vegetarian haggis!!

Re: Scottish culinary delights!!!!

I've had a deep fried battered cadburys cream egg from a chippy near Edinburgh, surprising what you'll eat on the way back from the pub. They had whole mini pizzas battered and deep fried as well as the now famous mars bars.

Re: Scottish culinary delights!!!!

All in the name of medical science there, wee man. Scotland is at the forefront and is pushing the envelope of coronary heart disease to it's outer limits, going where angels fear to tread...

...to the infirmary and beyond!!

How's about pizza crunchies? . Yes, this is a pizza, lovingly dipped in batter and then deep fried.

Re: Scottish culinary delights!!!!

Only 2 mths ago in NEWS Glasgow & West Scotland, the headline read,

'Glasgow has lowest life expectancy in UK'. Showing men's expectancy at 71yrs and women's at 78yrs, against 78 & 87 for people living in some areas South of the border.

Maybe there's a Scottish logic that most of us are missing here or maybe these deep fried goodies have govt backing thus continually lowering the rate of pensionable people putting a strain on the economy?

Re: Scottish culinary delights!!!!

In the west of Scotland, in the towns and villages surrounding Glasgow, there is a delicacy available in some of the more discerning fast-food outlets. Itís called the Munchy Box (sometimes just Munch Box) and itís a sight to behold.
Upon opening your Jock Monsieur, you will see a layer of Doner Kebab meat on top of a Naan Bread, maybe with some Glasgow Salad (chips) poking out from underneath. The wonders that await!.
