diabetic / haemodialysis cooking.

My dad is now having kidney dialysis and has to keep to a very strict diet. I've been searching for recipe books to help us make meals for him more interesting but havent had much luck. We have an appointment with a dietician next week but in the meantime dad is struggling with bland hospital food, a side affect of kidney failure is loss of taste buds. Do any TLF's have any experience of living with dialysis. It has to be said dad was already on quite a restrictive diet befor ethis, very stuck in his ways with a preference for roast dinners and carveries so will have to be introduced to curries and spices slowly.

Re: diabetic / haemodialysis cooking.

hi Mo Yusufs father is also on renal dialysis for 4 years now his kidneys stopped working through diabetes.he flavours his food with different spices ...although he isnt an easy character to deal with and generally pleases himself. for instance he wont have dialysis more than twice a week which isnt good really...neither will he stick to his diet nor fluid allowance..one of the reasons his kidneys failed. i can see the same fate awaiting Yusuf who is also diabetic now and just like his father wont listen

anyway Mo i will have a word with his wife and get some different ideas for you. thats an excellent link from Tess
