Ovaltine

Can I get Ovaltine anywhere in Turkey?

Just used up my last jar and with no plan to go to UK this year I am looking for local supply before next Winter. Otherwise it will be relatives smuggling it in. Horlicks will do, at a pinch.

Re: Ovaltine

Not in istanbul anyway I like it too
With these big British expat enclaves, im amazed nobody has started a 'treats from home' import company.

Re: Ovaltine

Ah Ovaltine.

Along with Horlicks, Werthers Originals and Preparation H they must be the signature products for many of TLFs members

Re: Ovaltine

We spoke to the manager of Kipa in Bodrum about different imported foods last summer when they were having a survey of products offered and he said that some items would be priced so high that people wouldn't buy them because of the taxes. They are trying, but what annoys me more is when they do import things, we get used to being able to buy them then it's stopped again!!! He explained that certain products were only allowed to be imported for 3 months at a time, then they had to wait until they could import them again, I really don't understand the Turkish import system but it stinks!

I buy from british corner shop online, their shipping is ridiculous and their products are more expensive online than they are in the UK, but if you share between friends the 30 kilo limit it makes the delivery affordable and makes it worth the extra cost for luxury things we want here. I even buy my cat food from there as it works out cheaper than buying it here, especially as my cat is English and used to Whiskas lol

Not wishing to start a row, but are you thinking of Bournvita? Equally delicious and unobtainable. The Ovaltine I have just finished is smooth powder, not granules.

Ovaltine is made by Nestle who have lots of their products available in Turkey, Bournvita is under Cadbury.

Re: Ovaltine

The Ovaltine I grew up with in the USA was granular like Shirley mentioned, and was available in Original (malted) or Chocolate, and supposed to be very good for you. Was a great treat to sprinkle on softened or melting ice cream!
