Breadmaking machines

asking my grand daughters what to buy their mum for Christmas, they said she wanted a bread making machine. i've never had one of these, so don't know anything about them.

any advice on what to look for would be appreciated, and are the more expensive ones necessarily better machines?

thanks for any help.

Re: Breadmaking machines

We bought an Hinari Breadmaker Arrian, years ago, it cost us £200 !!! but how much cheaper they are now. I do tend to use more in the winter time, just so easy and the results are delicious. You have given me a reminder to bring it out again now, and make some fruit bread this week.

The standard one should do what is required, with the quick cook functions browning on etc; ours does a nice sized standard loaf in 3hr 40 mins and the kitchen smells delicious whilst it's on.

Re: Breadmaking machines

Panasonic (SD-253), does all you could want; ie mixes, bakes, adds nuts/fruit. Idiot proof (I have the idiot). Must be 5 years old, no problems. Phillip won't like this thread.

PS SD-2501WXC looks like it does the same job, £100 on Amazon.

Re: Breadmaking machines

Bought a cheapo breadmaker from Tesco. Can't go wrong.

I use the 3hr 40 min dark crust , wholemeal programme as well Lesley.

Buy your yeast in sealed sachets , buy the best STRONG Canadian flour you can get. Waitrose is good.

Steve.

Re: Breadmaking machines

Have a panasonic that drops the seeds/nuts etc. It's great, cheaper & easier than going out for a loaf, unless you are in Turkey!

Re: Breadmaking machines

Ours must be years old now but still works a treat. Great for making pizza dough, just roll out and add your own fillings. The tomato sauce a doddle to make with a couple of tins of tomatoes.

Re: Breadmaking machines

my daughter's a great one for collecting kitchen gadgets, the top of her units are crammed full, and i bet there's about 6inches of dust on them all! (she never uses them) so i'm not going to get an expensive one as it will probably get used once and then put back in the box to join the others. then again, she may use it constantly.
i've been looking on Amazon and some of them are digital, would that make a difference?

No Arrian, just a different way of controlling the digits that you want the machine to do.
