Nutmeg

I want to buy some nutmeg, can anyone tell me the proper turkish name for it please? Ive looked it up in several dictionarys and they all say küçük hindistan cevizi . But when I found that in Bim it was actually coconut.

Quite a while ago someone wrote out a long list of ingredients and their turkish names, Ive been searching for that for a while and cant find it. Does anyone know how to find it? I think it would be really useful if that could be pinned at the top of the general cooking page so we can find it easily and use it regularly for reference.

Re: Nutmeg

I've asked for kucuk hindistan cevizi (little coconut) and managed to get nutmeg from spice shops. Have you tried a spice shop rather than a supermarket?

Good luck - hope you find some.

Re: Nutmeg

I got a jar in Kipa (perhaps Migros) for a few TL.

Label reads: Muskat - küçük hindistan cevizi tane

Thats exactly what it said on the coconut in Bim, wonder if it was wrongly labeled. Will look in Migros later, thanks Immac.

Re: Nutmeg

There is a list on here of various food translations. It took me a long time to find it, but I searched for kiyma. I don't know how to post a link. When the answers come up, it is under Turkish-English Food Translations. For some reason it does not load this post if you use the title. In this list it also says that nutmeg is muskat. Good luck.

Re: Nutmeg

This Spice List is only a part of the full listing I have mentioned above. It is listed as a Sticky, but I don't know if we can access Stickies on their own. It was posted on 21st April 2009 by Keny.
