Cooking without an oven!

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately the house I'm in at the minute doesn't have an oven and I'm really struggling!

We just have 2 gas rings ! We cook the basics like rice, chips, sausage, egg but has anyone got any basic recipes?

My boyfriend grows tomatoes and peppers so anything involving them will be a big help aswell.

Thanks!

Re: Cooking without an oven!

soup's, casseroles and stir fry's can all be done in one pan, search the internet and you should find loads of one pot meals.

Re: Cooking without an oven!

How about a chicken saute? Very simple with lots of recipes and variations and good for using the peppers and tomatoes. Made it for tea tonight and served with rice and crusty bread.

Re: Cooking without an oven!

You could just buy an oven. The portable type can be had for 120TL and work perfectly well for most cooking.

Re: Cooking without an oven!

Black olives in olive oil and a bit of lemon juice, with fresh bread. Get some bricks and grill some kebab outside. You need something else?

Re: Cooking without an oven!

Pizza on the stove top, been doing this for ages.

Put your pizza in a round tin or on anything that will fit inside a deep frying pan.
Put the tin in the deep pan but sit it on a couple of pieces of ceramic tile so that the metal tin is not in direct contact with the base of the pan.
Put the lid on (important).
Heat on a low light.
You now have a mini oven!

Obviously the same method can be used for many things.

Plenty of advice - happy cooking.

Oh yeah, if your there for the summer, why not just buy a portable oven and wheel it outside?
