Re: TLF Wine Club

Teat Madeira wine as a desert wine, rather like port at the end of a good dinner either with a pudding or cheese.

Re: TLF Wine Club

I honestly think I have a bottle of the rough stuff, there must be better out there, I am going to try it chilled tonight like you might a with a nice white port, if thats cak then I will donate it to linsey for cooking purposes, hence the sub forum this thread is in, I will also cancel our impending break on the island of the same name as there is no point if they cant make wine.

Re: TLF Wine Club

Hi KK

My name is...errrm Fred, no Joe

Anyway after reading your tips and protocol for cultured imbibing I too have a query.

When I was young living in the backstreets of Bel.. Belgravia, and we were skint but wanted a drink we put cheap beer in a basin and then put a hose connected to a Calor gas bottle into it. This livened it up no end and made a very intoxicating tipple.

Have you any such tips?

Joe

Re: TLF Wine Club

Having been a paid up and now an honorary member of most every imbibing fraternity out there, I have reached the stage in life where the realisation hits one that the God Bacchus invented the stuff for one reason only. All the etiquette is man made and whatever way you drink it makes no difference to the way home, with all the listing and leaning it will still be twice as long as the journey to the pub.

If I open a bottle and subsequently empty it, that's a drink for me. If I don't feel like finishing it, that's the stuff for my guests.

Re: TLF Wine Club

I love wine but never sweet wines, I have tried Madeira Wine after dinner with a splash of Martini Dry, as it was too sweet for me. I like Madeira wine gravy served with Venison though. Now White Port, yes every time. This time of year is beautiful, we have been to Funchal on our cruise travels many times, the flower festival is stunning.

Re: TLF Wine Club

I've had to read that three times Lesley and the only conclusion I can draw is that one of us has had a little more than a bottle tonight.

Not a drop of wine has passed my lips Pete, or any other of the liquidous alco variety, I am dry as a rot of wood, I cannot trust myself to keel over as I lead my husband Larry up the stairs to bed, I am on strict nursing duties. Maybe it's what I need a good drop or 3, what I am trying to say is NO I DO NOT LIKE MADEIRA WINE, and from past postings, unless I dreamt it Martin is thinking of going to this beautiful Island sometime in the future, or was it Des I really need to keep up, my addiction of the forum has waned of late.
