Stainless steel appliances Good or bad?

Figured the people that get the most use of the kitchen appliances are the chefs in this forum. Need to buy a fridge and a dishwasher. Wife and mother inlaw keep pointing out refrigerators that are stainless and I keep telling them they will get very stained with finger prints. I have seen a few models that have a coating over them.....assume this would be a better choice. But having a hard time finding them with a coating with in our budget. Would like to keep it under 3k. All the appliances say "No Fingerprints". Have seen this claim for decades. My uncle bought a really expensive fridge a couple years ago and it is covered in fingerprint stains. Water, soap on a cloth does nothing. WD40 does nothing. Anyone have this problem? Thanks.

Re: Stainless steel appliances Good or bad?

Had a stainless steel hob and eye level oven in our apartment, put in by the builder so maybe not best quality, but they were a nightmare to keep shiny and smear free. Give me good old fashioned "white" goods any day.

Re: Stainless steel appliances Good or bad?

When I did tiling, one of the worst jobs was tiling all around a stainless cooker hood with 4x4inch tiles (loads of small triangular cuts)....needless to say by the time it was all sealed and grouted, there were loads of fingerprints .Easy option, wipe it down with a weak soapy water solution , give it a quick buff , then apply (VERY sparingly), some baby oil on a cloth then leave

There are different grades of stainless steel, I believe the one to look for is 304 grade, the others can rust.

Re: Stainless steel appliances Good or bad?

I clean my stainless steel kitchen sink every morning with half water and half vinegar, using an old spray container. No stains and no lime scale. Vinegar kills germs and is O.K. to breath in - no chemicals.

Martin the best is grade 316 as used in the marine industry. All stainless is susceptible to rust to some degree; have just spent an hour or so cleaning the rust from the stainless fittings on my boat

I know the one used in the catering industry and for outdoor bbqs is usually en 304, presumably the 316 is more expensive

Dishwasher - you are making a rod for your own back - what's wrong with a plastic bowl.
No rusting no finger prints lots more money to spend on yourself - solution.
