Re: Christmas recipies

Decided on baked Stornaway black pudding with a light mustard sauce with a couple of Scallops for a starter.
We have gone back to a turkey crown for Christmas dinner but still thinking of what to serve it with, we had the 5 bird roast last week up at Linseys dads, it was really tasty.
Not sure which cocktails to serve with breakfast as of yet but it will definately include Champagne.

Re: Christmas recipies

I would go a bit steady on the breakfast cocktails if I were you!
Been there, it can affect the later lunch. Never again.

One tip with roast potatoes.
After par boiling and putting them in the oven in pre heated goose fat, after about 10 minutes remove them and squash them a bit with a potato masher. It kind of gives more edges and makes them crispy on the outside and squidgy in the middle.
Not something to be undertaken after cocktails!

Champagne cocktails at dawn are no problem for me Janet, but goose fat roasties are a no no sadly, dry roast for me I'm afraid.

Re: Christmas recipies

Now that's a good idea Janet, will try that. This weekend is our Christmas "bash" at our eldest sons house, as it's the only time all the children are able to be together. He has a brand new kitchen and oven and likes cooking but I have made a lovely big ham and Coronation Chicken to take up for the next day. I will be wearing a very garish festive jumper, as you all will, I hope !

Re: Christmas recipies

It is so warm here I'm not sure about the Xmas jumper whilst in the kitchen!

I have got some hideous , light flashing Xmas earrings though. Just to wind my son up who reckons he hates ' all this Xmas tat'.
Have a great time!

Re: Christmas recipies

Has anyone ever put their full christmas dinner in a blender, to turn into a soup? As I might have to do this, had to get an emergency appointment at the dentist, extremely red, inflamed, sore gums and sensitive teeth. Put on antibiotics, so no alcohol as well bah humbug

Re: Christmas recipies

Had to do it 10 years ago. My grandson got his jaw broken at football he was released from hospital on xmas eve with his jaw plated in three places and his teeth wired together.
On xmas day he was ravenous, so Turkey, stuffing, potato, sprouts, gravy all went into blender and kept putting gravy in until it was soft and runny enough for him to eat. He managed to eat plenty of it, and managed to eat like that for another 5days before he got sick of it and removed to wires so he could manage easier.
