I believe one of the reasons for that is because they are constantly phoning their masters reporting everything you do and probably everything you say in the privacy of your own home.
The wife has one and I have monitored quite a bit of data transfer when the thing is supposed to be at rest. Maybe I am being paranoid but I think people should question exactly what these devices are communicating, especially as they are supposed to be built to minimise download bandwith.
