Re: Turkish cheese

Love cheeses , all cheeses the world over , but Turkish cheese for some reason i find sour and not very pleasant . Tried most one way or another .

Tend to stick with imported cheeses and the Pinar cheddar .

Re: Turkish cheese

Migros have just started selling packet blocks of Cheddar under the President brand name. Tastes like the real thing - which I suppose it is. Under the same line, they are selling Gouda and a few Turkish cheeses.

There is an Irish Cheddar sold in some shops here that tastes like it is made in a chemical factory. One to be avoided.

Re: Turkish cheese

It is not the same texture or flavour as cheddar but we enjoy the Migros brand Olganlastirilmis Inek Tam yagli beyaz peynir (matured full fat white cow cheese), in a purple container. it does have a good flavour. I am not sure that it does come from white cows though.

Re: Turkish cheese

I bought some Ezine (? spelling) in the market the other day and was pleasantly surprised at how like Cheddar it tasted.

Re: Turkish cheese

I used to get Bergama cheese from the market stall, a nice sharp cheese but goes salty after five days or so in the fridge----Mange Tout!.

Re: Turkish cheese

Anyone tried smoking Haloumi (Hellim) at the end of a barbie? Delicious cold the next day. I use apple wood but cherry is also good. keep the temperature down, open the vents and put the lid on. Leave it about 30mins in the smoke.

I tried smoking that once, the court did not accept my defence.
