Re: General comparisons Turkey/Spain

As we edge closer to ft living in Valencia I continue comparing experiences prices etc with my old stomping ground of super Turkey

I don't know whether prices have dropped there or it's just our region in Spain is quite expensive but political uncertainty aside I must say if you are boldly considering buying abroad believe me your money for a good property will go an awful lot further in Turkey.

Not identical but very similar properties - 3 bed 3 bath pool good standard- where I am now 280+ , looking at one available now in my wee Uzumlu 125

Re: General comparisons Turkey/Spain

We are now in a lovely little town called Pinoso - about 20 miles further inland than Elche. Town is really lovely - a few Brits - but very typically Spanish. Prices for everyday living, utilities, property repairs etc are much dearer than Turkey. We still miss Fethiye but felt it was time to go after 11 years - we could see the slide away from secularism and I am convinced the financial markets see the same. Consequently I think the value of property is directly proportional to the risk - and sadly that is a situation we could not afford to worry about in our retirement. Let's hope the forthcoming election brings about the start of a "new beginning" but somehow I don't see the "iron grip" being loosened.

Re: General comparisons Turkey/Spain

Yes have to agree - am almost trempted to say " snap!!" - as in Turkey we lived in the same town as you for roughly the same period as you and also shifted to Spain

Basically in my own experience eating out , having a drink -cheaper and better quality/ choice

Groceries - not much diff

Utilities, labour prices, various taxes, property prices etc - much higher

Roundabouts and swings I suppose as I also find infrastructure much better developed.

Will always have great memories for my time in Turkey and as the 2 countries are so different I cannot say ones better than the other

Re: General comparisons Turkey/Spain

Philip - just enjoying a coffee and a waffle in a small town called Jumilla (some 25 mins away) - sat opposite a beautiful old theatre, surrounded by gorgeous traditional buildings - with a couple of very elderly ladies sat on chairs - applying oil to their front doors and chatting (both with immaculate almost grand hallways). We are told there is a thanksgiving procession in one hour. Life couldn't get much better - different to Fethiye but new experiences for us and that always makes life interesting!

The trouble with Spain it's to big to bail out . There is talk or a new Greece . When we lived there about 20 years ago all there money came from the EU.
