Re: Bulgaria

Earlier today we met with The British Deputy Ambassador to Bulgaria. She is on a 6 major City/Town tour of various regions in Bulgaria to meet with British Expats residing here. Today it was the town of Yambol, where there was a very good turnout, with not a spare seat to be had.

She was originally planned to give us an insight into the latest up-to-date information on Brexit. But as this tour was originally scheduled a month in advance, she gave us a short speech on what a *Planned* (if it does eventually happen) would deliver to the UK Expats over here, and also explained where we stand as far as the UK & Bulgaria Governments are concerned in the event of a *No Deal*.

Later she also gave us short explanations regarding where we are at the moment with issues like, Healthcare, Pensions, Taxation, Residency, Driving Licenses, Property Ownership etc.,

It was nice to know that we, as UK Expats living in Bulgaria are not being forgotten. Also there was a promise from her to arrange another likewise tour by the UK Ambassador Team, again early in the New Year, with hopefully representatives also from the Bulgarian Government to answer any of our concerns (if we have any).

Just Saying..

Re: Bulgaria

Coronavirus19 in Bulgaria.

Thus, the total number of infected patients is 92, with 2 deaths.

"We have 11 more cases of coronavirus infected.

Thus, the total number of patients is 92. We have one in Smolyan and one in Veliko Turnovo." This was made clear at a briefing at the National Operations Headquarters.

Along with the news - "China has not forgotten that in January when China was the centre of the virus outbreak the European Union helped," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a video message on Twitter, recalling that the EU donated 50 tonnes of protective equipment that month.

"Today we are the centre of the coronavirus pandemic and we need protective equipment ourselves. We are ranking up our production, but this needs several weeks and in the meantime we are grateful for support from China", Von der Leyen said.

Delivery of medical supplies is expected soon and includes 2 million surgical masks, 200,000 type 95 masks (also protective) and 50,000 coronavirus detection tests.

Re: Bulgaria

I think the masks, unless part of a hazmat suit, are considered useless as the virus is so minuscule that it just passes right through the filter.

Unless countries have sophisticated health systems, the population is at extreme risk. USA is going to have a severe problem, with the poorest being most vulnerable. How is Bulgaria set-up for such emergencies?

Re: Bulgaria

The biggest problem BG has faced recently is in the Skiing Resort of Bansko, where a family of 6 (including a 9 year old boy), were found to be infected. Which turned out they brought over from the UK. Also to this effect a young UK couple from Enfield were found to be infected at the same resort. This resort and BG generally is in lock-down.

We have no food hoarding atm, supermarkets are all normal, and the general population is adhering to the request to self-isolate.

Re: Bulgaria

Just had a visit from the local BG Police.

As my wife (Sue), has only just returned back to BG from the UK on Saturday last. They were just checking up on us from a distance of 3 metre, making sure we were OK and not suffering from any symptoms. All very amicable I must say..

Re: Bulgaria

Many thanks for your concerns guys.

At the moment the nearest confirmed infection case is approx. 180 miles away. And I must say I am totally impressed with the BG Government, with their handling of the crisis so far.

The biggest problem BG has/had is in the Bansko skiing resort region in the north of the country. Many of people that frequent Bansko are obviously tourists, but NOT Bulgarians.

They come mainly from Italy, Germany, Austria and the UK & Eire. Because it is a very small fraction of the price, regarding, Hotels, Ski Passes, Hiring Equipment etc., even allowing for the expense of travelling to BG, than to Ski in their OWN Countries. Hence lies the COVID19 problem in BG. But as of yesterday with 92 confirmed cases, and 2 deaths, so far, they are doing remarkably well.
