Pastures New

With another good TLFer moving to a new country thought I would start a thread for members telling us about their new places countries etc after their time in Turkey

Know there were quite a few moved on to Bulgaria which sounds a fascinating place-love to hear more about it

Also know a few who opted for France as well

Housemartins-why did you opt for Espana???

Re: Pastures New

Well the need to be closer to the UK for my parents was the reason for the move and no way could I face the cold UK climate. We had already thought about Spain before we left Turkey to North Cyprus. So Spain givs us easier access to the UK, cheaper flights and cost of living is still cheaper than the UK but more than North Cyprus.

Re: Pastures New

Costa Blanca is a beautiful area. You have chosen well. You are Costa Blanca South whilst we opted for the North-though the whole region is amazing

You will enjoy it.

As you say definitely dearer than Turkey-but swings n roundabouts. Enjoy your new place

Re: Pastures New

Nice Thread.

Please don't start me off on the benefits of living/residing in Bulgaria, as against Turkey. Personally, they are too many too mention, yes BG does have some drawbacks, but not many, (bit like Marmite).

Did try Greece (Limenaria) for a while, even looked at Portugal, before taking yet another Inspection Trip around Bulgaria, before settling where we are now.

If you would like any further info, I'll be only too pleased to answer if possible, (and NO I'm not an Emlak or a BG Est Agent)..??

As a matter of interest what put you off Greece and Portugal?

Have never been to the latter, big girl has and loved it

Re: Pastures New

Well to be fair other than bars ( generally) in our area of Valencia it's the same

However being a crafty Paddy I sort of turn this to my advantage as when I go to buy anything in the village and the shops closed till 5 it means I sit in the wee bar until then

Heh, heh- and they say us Irish are thick!!!!

It reminds me of TRNC where most of the DIY shops close at 12:30 on Saturday and stay closed all day Sunday. FFS when are you supposed to do your DIY?

Re: Pastures New

Greece & Portugal was both cost of living, and also the overall cost of buying a property in either Country, as against buying a property here in Bulgaria, and either renovating it or knocking it down altogether and re-building from footings up.

Re: Pastures New

Apparently now cost of living in Greece is very reasonable-but personally I am not a fan

We added up recently the people we knew personally as well as others we heard of through our continuing contacts in Turkey and out of 9 leavers 6 went to Bulgaria.

As regards ourselves one of the reasons was access.

It used to be there were flights Belfast Dalaman April to October 2/3 times a week and to Bodrum even more. Thomas Cook pulled out completely re the Bodrum flights and now the only flights for Dalaman are once a week June to Sept/Oct

Compare that to flights 365 days a year, 5 different airlines, up to 5 flights A DAY with returns from less than 40 for Spain. No contest
