Re: Alcohol ban in Antalya!

It won't be banned from licensed places or banned on your balcony or your table. It'll be banned from drinking along streets and parks etc. We have similar bans in England London. It's a good idea.

Quote:
According to the new directive, consumption of alcohol in parks, gardens, open spaces, highways, picnic areas, historical ruins and the interior of all vehicles will be prohibited. The directive also bans the consumption of alcohol in train stations, bus terminals, squares, avenues, streets, historical and cultural venues, places of worship, abandoned structures, construction zones, cemeteries, ATMs, promenades, stairwells, and underneath bridges.
And that's all. And "open spaces" can be interpreted as terraces of bars.

Re: Alcohol ban in Antalya!

Last season in Uzumlu bars were told by police not to have their products visible from outside the premises

Even on bar patio etc spirit bottles had to be faced label inwards

In Fethiye bizarrely bars were told not to use umbrellas bearing alcohol advertising

I think, even here, it would be somewhat extreme to interpret an open air space as a bar terrace as the bar terrace would fall under the remit of the licensed premises and as such it would be legal to serve alcohol...as opposed to an open space such as parks, streets, etc which are not licensed to serve alcohol.
Before everyone gets into the "We're doomed" frame of mind, this is in effect what happens all over Britain and pubs and restaurants seem to cope fine. What it does do however, it keep drunken take-away booze louts off the street..until of course they fall out of the licensed premises where they can down as much as they want.

Re: Alcohol ban in Antalya!

It's been banned in parks and public places for years. Let's not get hysterical.

Re: Alcohol ban in Antalya!

Quite a few Turks I know will not be impressed...............never mind tourists, most Turks I know like a drink. Many bars & restaurants cant cater for crowds inside they just aint big enough. Turks will have to be p*ssed off with actually getting p*ssed.
