Just clarified today re our local bull runs

The bulls are not harmed injured assaulted etc in any way. Yes it's still wrong because the poor animals must be frightened running through a town instead of being in the countryside but there is no violence towards them

I am reliably informed in this village there have been 3 deaths in the past 7 years re the bull running ALL human- idiots coming out of the protective cages to provoke the poor animals

The Pamploma bull run maybe not like local as this one is cruel.

The same bulls who slip and slide down Pamplona's cobbled streets will be stabbed to death in the town's bullring later that day. Tourists who take part in the run are contributing to the carnage.

Discretion needed in watching,

But for the last 14 years, something else has also been happening in Pamplona every July. Kind people from every corner of Spain as well as from many other countries have been coming together to speak out against the cruelty and take part in a hard-hitting demonstration that makes headlines all around the world. In fact, heading to Pamplona to protest has become a tradition in itself, and it’s a compassionate alternative to the gruesome “festivities” later in the week .Pamplona again with Spanish group AnimaNaturalis making some noise for animals.

Yes I Hate the bull "traditions" but I have to accept local heritage

Animal cruelty is EVERYWHERE with some of the worst I have ever seen in Turkey

I remember specifically walking through central Fethiye and watching some scumbag drop kick a cat he was passing in the street. What made it even more disgusting is the amount of locals watching and all seemed to accept it as ok

Just like I had to accept the total bollox many Turks believe re cats in your house can give you cancer hence their cruelty to them- I have to avoid the barbaric treatment of bulls here

It is good that you do Philip... and agree there are cruel people everywhere and should be condemned.

It's a pity that you didn't take it for what it was against animal cruelty and accept the criticism of your new Homebase activities and not aimed at you, without what seems like the inevitable retaliatory kick back.

The difference for me is that whilst individuals( everywhere ) who attack animals of any sort should be condemned and when possible jailed.

the "bulls" is portrayed "entertainment " packaged for tourists to watch as fun and as the video said "the run" is now nothing to do with Spanish heritage but a drunken party package tour for the money. Not individuals personal cruelty but cruelty put on for the masses.

Going back to Spanish Festivals. Most of them are religious and, frankly, a pain in the butt for tourists, like me. We went for a week in Benidorm not knowing that one of their great festivals was taking place (for the whole week) We couldn't move in the streets, many of which were closed off. Noise and cannon firing went on for most of the night and again cannons were firing from 4.00 a.m. Then, the worst of it was, children were letting off fireworks/fire crackers in the street. Will be careful when I next book a trip to Spain to avoid the festival week ! Apart from that, I really enjoy Spain, especially Malaga.

They are religious in that they are often based around the time of Holy days for certain saints. Frankly apart from that ( and masses which are not compulsory) there's no real religious aspect to them whatsoever

Top tip-if you opt for Benidorm you deserve whatever ya get!!!!

It's like opting for Antarctica and then complaining about the cold!!!

Have you been to Benidorm Philip? There are parts of it that are really a pleasure and not everyone is a loud mouthed lout. Avoid Lavante beach, of course.

Yes
There are indeed some very plush hotels

The town centre however is a grimy unpleasant experience

A good base to travel out from is Beni, the town itself deserves a swerve.

Always had Benidorm down as attracting similar people to those attracted to Gumbet or Marmaris etc. I say that because I know a good number who have been to all and enjoyed them, and fair play to them, whilst it doesn't appeal to me I'm told the old town is worth a visit.
Our Bro has a house fairly close 20/30 km away as does Linsey's mate from school so accommodation is not an issue, given that if I do go to Calpe or Moraira for a long weekend is it worth the visit down to Benidorm old Town ?

Yes for a one off night " slumming it" apparently it's a bit of craic and an eye opener
Certainly in recent years it has become a novelty trip for Spaniards to complete as they go and observe English holidaymakers in an almost " zoo like" fashion with their drinking and behavioural antics

So the old town isn't old Spain ? as I was led to believe.

Parts of the Old town are yes

There are windy streets, cobbled plazas and some really well kept bars etc. There is a strict building code there so even some of the more " specialist" venues are housed in very appealing facades

The disappointing aspect is the area referred to as " old town" also includes some pretty tatty areas because the town itself isn't really based on an old Spanish village like most large Spanish towns which have new/old distinct areas

Whilst there was originally a small fishing village what's referred to now as " old town" includes much from when it was first established as a resort which was early 1960s as opposed to most other towns in the region dating to pre Moorish era
