Can I retire?

Hi. Myself and my husband are lucky enough to have retired in our mid forties and would love to live in the Gocek area of Turkey. Does anybody have any advice on whether we would be allowed to settle in Turkey permanently and if so where we would start. Many thanks

Hi and wellcome to the forum, Gocek is lovely would say price wise it would be the same as Gumusluk that is not cheap! you can live here full time, but you will need a res permit to do so this is quite stright forword, please do your homework first and make sure you can afford to live here full time, good luck Jim

Hi. Thanks for your prompt response. Gocek is on the South coast between, Dalaman and Fetiyhe. It is a popular destination for sailing and is very quiet and relatively undiscovered. We have just come back from there and it is like paradise for us as we are keen sailors.

Re: Can i retkire

Hi Welcome to the forum. We too are going to retire to Turkey early next year all being well. We are in our late forties/ early fifties, like Kev, we should be able to survive ok on the interest as rates are good at the moment, and we will have an income from a rental prperty here in England, as suggested do your homework, and there are a few "cost of living threads" here on the forum, just use the search button, and it will give you invaluable advise. Good luck. Sue and Anthony

Re: Can I retire?

Welcome to the Forum. You will be able to get lots of advice and help here.

Gocek is lovely. I often go there when I develop cabin fever in Dalyan. I would think carefully before retiring there in your mid forties. In winter it is more closed down than many other places. What are you going to do with your time? Take a look at the Gocek Forum here - the last post before yours was in April which suggests there may not be a lot of social life. Gocek is also quite expensive because of the marina - I saw a bottle of champagne on sale in the supermarket for 1,400 Turkish Lira.

Re: Can I retire?

Thanks for your response. The forum is being very informative. Two of the reasons Gocek is so appealing to us is the Marina and its quietness, compared to other places. We are going to be sailing our boat down there over the next month or two and as we currently have no neighbours and live on a grouse moor in the North of England, Gocek will seem quite lively!

Re: Can i retire

Welcome to the forum. I can't offer help/advice on your thoughts re retirement, but we are lucky enough to have a yacht based in Bodrum and enjoy sailing in Turkish waters very much indeed. We've not (so far) ventured as far as Gocek and/or Fetiyhe but have every intention of doing so as and when we have enough time to get there - and back (against the prevailing wind!). I wish you luck, whatever you decide.

Thumbs up Re: Can I retire?

If you are keen on sailing, Gocek is a must. The islands and bays are beautiful for anchorage. I have just crossed the Atlantic, from the Carribean, which everyone seems to rave about, but it doesn't compare to the Turkish waters around Gocek and the weather is better too, in my view. We can't wait to go back.

Re: Can I retire?

Well, we're not in the "have just crossed the Atlantic" league, but are certainly keen on sailing. Many thanks for your comments about Gocek, which have undoubtedly encouraged us to set sail in that direction as soon as we can. Probably next year, as we have family flying to Bodrum to join us for the second week of our next trip, in October.
