Bah, Humbug!

Well, that’s Christmas over for another year. I must be getting old, because I’ve had it up to my “whatsits” with schmaltzy “here comes Santa” movies, and assorted choirs singing the same old carols we have all heard a thousand times before. Go down the shops and you have to suffer the sally army tooting away on tuneless brass instruments, listen carefully and you can almost pick out a tune. Herself even made me suffer Downton Abbey, two hours of absolute purgatory. Just new year to go now, so get ready to suffer Jimmy the Teuchter and his kist “o” whistles, or some pipe band playing Mull of Kintyre, again. I’m just hoping Jules Holland has someone decent on this time for a change, and not some geriatric old has been, groaning away whilst wearing the most ridiculous syrup he could find, or on the off chance they have any hair left, the silliest looking dyed comb over the makeup girls could muster.
And yes, I do know I’m a miserable old sod.

help ma boab Sha- you make the Reverend Jolly sound like an extreme optimist and bundle of fun. I have just shown your post to my wife to prove that I am not alone re the emotions you depict. I decided to get out of it this year and enjoy Xmas on a sun drenched beach. I thoroughly recommend it

ps - for those members who haven't seen the Rev Jolly characterisation then google Rikki Fulton and it should brighten up your day.

Re: Bah, Humbug!

I really dislike the Hollywood Hijack of Christmas , huge sitting rooms , roaring log fire in huge fireplaces , snow and fields full of reindeer , stupid jumpers with " slacks " and Nat King Cole , Bing Crosby and Frankie boy scmooozing their banal crooning for what seems like the last 100 years , we wonder why kids switch off and hammer their play stations ( my age i know ) and tablets.

There is nothing that is relevant to them , i watched a stupid cartoon , the Archangel Gabriel appeared , long golden locks , blue eyes and flashing blonde eyelashes , talk about propagating unrealistic untruths to impressionable kids.

The media in general has abandoned creativity for an easy ride on historic cheap 1930's style schmaltz.

Time for a grown up approach by the TV companies et al.

And as for the Church.....
