Re: Importing a car

I drove down and entered Turkey via Edirne with my pickup truck...Was loaded to the rafters with personal items.....All used.. I now have my residency, however I came through on a visitor visa..

At the border I had to show My V5 and purchase insurance at a cost of 80 euros for 3 months...This is the most I could purchase on a visiting visa..

On My arrival at my house I found my residency permit had arrived...so off to customs to get a 2 yr stamp in my passport for my car... This is the max they could give me... for more than 2yrs I would have to formally import my vehicle..

Note I only got the 2yrs stamp because I have a 2yr Residency!!

hope this helps!!

Steve

Re: Importing a car

My Pickup is getting on a bit, but its been a great and reliable car... Where I live in Davutla, the roads are pretty bad...A good car here would be wasted tbh. I plan to return to the UK in a couple of years anyway for other reasons, so a 2 yr stamp is ideal for me... When I return, I shall simply bring out another pickup, for another 2 years..

Cars here are horrendously expensive imo, I'm seeing 200k cars being sold for 30000tl and more.. I believe its down to Tax...oh and some very stupid car traders..

The secondhand car market is bad.... Maybe in few more years it'll improve!! New cars on the other hand appear to be much better value..

3000 isn't going to get you much of a car here tbh... Just a personal opinion, but I would bring out your car and do as I did...But it must leave before the end date in your passport otherwise fines will be incurred when it does finally exit Turkey..

Re: Importing a car

Yes I think its round the other way in Turkey ( old cars less tax )
My 20 a year low emission car I have in UK would prob be ridiculous price in ( road tax wise ) Turkey .So that is keeping up price of older cars.? Bit out of date but gives you a idea.My one year old 1200 cc car in Turkey is 122 .

Annual Vehicle Tax in Turkey

The motor vehicle tax for passenger cars will increase by 40%. As of 1 January 2018, a new motor vehicle tax variable will be introduced to the tax calculation. The current calculation considers only the engine capacity, wherein the new calculation will also consider the passenger cars' values. Accordingly, the tax will increase by 10% to 20% depending on the car's value.

Annual Vehicle Tax in Turkey
From next month the annual tax on vehicles will increase by 40% plus an extra 10/20% based on the value of the vehicle

example 1 to 3 year old car under 1300cc currently 646tl increases to 904tl plus 10/20% extra based on the value of the vehicle

Looks like importing 16 year old cars is the way to go
