Prob going to spend 5/6 weeks a year over here and want mobiles for my husband and I
What's the cheapest way to run one?
Can we get Turkish pay as you go somewhere?

Re: What's the best way to run a mobile phone?

Hi Sue, welcome from me, I bought a cheap Nokia in Yalikavak 4 yrs ago, I always use the Turkcell in the main street almost next to Tameros Restaurant very easy to find. (Before I get jumped on I have no friends there and no business connection), I have always used this shop and find them to be really helpful and genuine in all Turkcell matters. The phone with credit on cost me 100 liras, and so long as I keep it topped up within the timescales never had a problem. I have posted a link to start you off but some rules may have changed, so just ask away.

Keeping a Turkcell sim card active.

If you have a Turkish bank account you can top up your phone online to keep it active. You can definitely do this with HSBC and I believe other Turkish banks as well. This way you can, as Sunny Seasider says, buy a cheap Turkish mobile & sim card, and then keep it topped up whether you are in Turkey or not. You will have to top up roughly every 5 months or so - somebody else will give you exact time periods.

Re: What's the best way to run a mobile phone?

Thanks Doug, I now have my Turkcell phone set on roaming, did that whilst there and I plan to buy a scratch card on my last trip over there and work out my dates for keeping it topped up. Turkcell Customer Services are very helpful Sue, and we all have to go through this pain to keep our number active. Good Luck.

turkcell told me you can do it leave it up to 9 months now and even then you wont lose the sim number completely as if it expires you have anothet year to buy a new sim and apply to have it changed to the number you let expire after 9 months of no top up .
