Re: Gundogan area

Hi Arty, I am actually along the coast a few miles in Yalikavak but they are fairly similar in a way. In the winter, yes it can be wet, windy and cold but a price worth paying for the beauty of the place in the other 9 months. Dec to March in my experience are the worst. Bodrum is not far away if you need a bigger town buzz but like most places in this area, they all tend to be very quiet, shops shut for the winter etc. There is always something to do in the winter, even if its just going for a nice uncrowded walk without being pestered into restaurants / bars. I actually rather like the winter (apart from the weather). Maybe try renting for a year before buying, that way you will have time to make your own mind up. Cheers

Re: Gundogan area

Hi Arty & welcome.I live and work in Gundogan and its a lovely place to be,
Its not commercialised and about 80 % Turkish property owners. Some Dutch some Norwegians some British.
It takes 20 minutes by dolmus (bus) from Gundoan bus station to Bodrum centre and buses run in summer from 6.30 am every half hour right round to 5am.There is also a bus that starts at Golturkbuku to Gundogan then Yalikavak, Gumusluk Turgutreis.
Lovely safe walkway around the u shaped bay. Lots of restaurants, bars both st the beach and in the village.
Bank machines, supermarket, jandarme polis.bakeries, small 'corner'shops. Market every Wednesday for fruit veg & other goods.
Rich Turkish buy here as it has a wonderful sea breeze in summer rather than the heat of the south of the resorts on Bodrum peninsula. Lots of Turkish retired diplomats and government & military have homes here.
Small harbour with freshly caught fish for sale every morning.
I love it here !
PM me anytime if you want more info on life here

Smile Re: Gundogan area

I can second Lynne's comments, as we've just bought somewhere up the road from Gundogan in Hekimkoy (Golturkbuku). Gundogan still retains the charm and you have the hustle and bustle of Bodrum a short Dolmus ride away when you want it. We originally found somewhere via another agent, but Lynne is very helpful, and has a wealth of knowledge, so we went through her in the end. Also her business partner is a builder, so he's doing some renovation works as we speak. Good luck with your search. PM me if I can help in any way as we're going through the process now and have viewed many properties in the surrounding areas too.

Why not load a few pictures to the TLF gallery? You can access it by pressing the Camera icon under your profile or from the Photo Gallery link on the left menu.

Re: Gundogan area

Hi Arty, I live in Ankara and live part time in Turkbuku in the summer and Alanya in the winter. Plenty to do in and around gundogan area, it takes weeks just to explore the Bodrum peninsular. I like the local Gundogan Fish resataurant at the end of the car park behind Migros nearest the Jetty which is open all year around. Summer time is a dream, winter is wet and wild. I was in Bodrum 2 weeks ago getting my Tapu sorted out (again).

Re: Gundogan area

I am in Turkbuku and have to agree with the previous posts regarding the scenery and the available services in Gundogan and surrounding area.
As always and and as previously advised, rent for a time before buying.
Good Luck.

Re: Gundogan area

To Davielad...........the fish restaurant has ceased to trade. It is now Hanimellis owned by Muslu who has Hanimellis in Yalikavak. He said its going to be more of a steak/wine bar but will keep doing mezzes and some fish.
Was very busy on New Years eve. Planty of other good bars & restaurants to try in Gundogan.
