Update on Universal health insurance and ikamet

The link is http://www.ukinturkey.fro.gov.uk/en/...tish-nationals
In short, the Turkish ministry will consider at least freezing ikamets (residence permit) prices but they seem to insist on those of us who are resident for more than one year paying for this government health insurance and this applies to everyone, and does not exclude retirees.
Im not sure how the authorities will check if we have it when it becomes compulsory but my guess is it gets stamped on the RP and if you don't have it, you might have problems entering the border or even staying in Turkey. Bit of a drag for those of us who pay for private treatment but once they make it law we can't do anything about it I'm afraid.

Re: Update on Universal health insurance and ikamet

I believe it was originally stated that Private health insurance would also be acceptable. Don't start the panic yet please

Re: Update on Universal health insurance and ikamet

I don't have private health insurance Teresa; I pay as and when I need checks or treatment. I'm hopefully not starting a panic and there was some light in that they are talking about RP prices but I think really that one way or another, we will all be required to have some kind of health insurance and btw, private health insurance (especially for those of retirement age on this forum) would be a lot costlier.

Sorry I had to type it in manually so that's why it didn't open I think the 'fro' should be 'for' - short for Foreign Office, sorry!

Re: Update on Universal health insurance and ikamet

Sorry, I missread your post. We pay into the Turkish system already as Private treatment was not an option for us either. It is a chunk to pay out but like everything once you start you get used to it.

The recent UK update also mentions about looking at a possible agreement between the UK and Turkey on health treatment. You never know

it should be fco for foreign and commomwealth but for some reason the page does not appear to be there anymore as you get a 404 error page not found

I certainly hope something gets agreed. The price mentioned before is ridiculous IMO! particularly for single people, not so bad for a family.
