Ulcer on my ankle.

On May 8th, I caught my ankle on the edge of one of Eris'c saw's and got a tiny cut from it. I cleaned it and didn't even bother with a dressing as it was so small. It has never healed and now there is a hole and it's causing me untold pain, especially when I am in bed at night. I went to the Doctors at the end of June and he gave me anti biotics and some anti b cream, also he sent me for a blood test to see if I was dietbetic and that came back clear.
The hole is now getting bigger and I wondered if any of you knew of any treatments I could try.

Re: Ulcer on my ankle.

Sharon you definitely need to get this checked out. Similar happened with my sister a couple of years ago and she ended up with a huge ulcer. Compression dressings are what she had to have and after about 9 months eventually it healed. Please, please get to the hospital to get this sorted.

Yes, go to the hospital. Ulcers do take ages to heal as the others have said but when I was nursing I remember a lady whose ulcer never healed and they said it was because she 'didn't eat her greens.' Sounds a bit old wives tale but here it is true. Eat plenty of spinach and broccoli (dark green) and it will help the healing process.

Re: Ulcer on my ankle.

Sharon,
Have a look at active Manuka Honey on the internet.

This is what I use but it can be a bit painful when you first use it.

I have tried all sorts of dressings I got my ulcer in a simular way to you but now Mine breaks down after a few years and I have to start again.

Best advise if you can get to a ulcer clinic do so.

But Like I have stated I put Manuka Honey as the best to clean and treat the infection. use grade 15 upwards 25 if you can find it.

You should also take the full coarse and may be a further coarse of anti biotics

Re: Ulcer on my ankle.

Thanks for your reply's. My Doctor here in Bulgaria didn't seem too worried about it but I expect he will go ballistic when he see's it now. I will go and see him and get it sorted. I am not able to sleep at all because the pain seems to come while I'm resting.
I will check out the honey Boltonborn and I have also read that toothpaste or a slice of onion helps. I will try anything at this point. 3 different anti biotic creams have not helped so maybe something from the kitchen will.

Re: Ulcer on my ankle.

My mum had one for years after catching hers in a similar way. All types of treatment failed until she had her varicose veins done and low and behold the ulcer cleared up never to bother her again. Please go and see your doctor as soon as possible and don't get fobbed off.

Re: Ulcer on my ankle.

Do not neglect it. My partner had an itchy boil that he let get infected and it was then touch and go for surgery. Luckily 3 weeks of boric acid poured into the wound and twice daily intra-muscular antibiotic injections saved the sıtuation in extremis but the doctors were extremely worried and a whole lot of hassle which he could have spared himself had he got it treated correctly before it created an infected wound.

Don't try onions or toothpaste on it, get off to the doctors now. Ulcers are seriously difficult to get resolved and can last for many months/years.

You need proper medical treatment for this and if your local doctor doesn't help go to another.
