Emergency facilities in Turkey for Asthma sufferers?

Hi,

My partner and i are hoping to travel to the Lycian / Turquoise Coast next week but have some concerns regarding my partners Asthma.

if we would needed to call an ambulance, where would be the best hospital to be closest to. We initially had hoped to go to kalkan but i understand that the hospital or ambulance station would have to come from Kas which is about 30 minutes away. I dont think we could wait 30 mins if he had an asthma attack. But when i googled hospitals in Turkey, it didnt even show a hospital in Kas.....so am very frazzled with info from the net, am hoping that someone here can let me know what would be the best course of action.

It is a small chance that he would have an attack but if he did i would like to be prepared fully.

Thank you

Sharon.

And remember to disclose asthma on your travel policy, otherwise you could find it invalid.......(though I'm sure you would know this)

Check the Hospital in Kas, does it accept A&E, and check the cost of an Ambulance to take you there.

A friend of ours recently required an Ambulance to take her to hospital in Bodrum, from Gulluk. The cost was just short of 1000 TL

Re: Emergency facilities in Turkey for Asthma sufferers?

Presumably this cost would be covered by the travel insurance company?

Re: Emergency facilities in Turkey for Asthma sufferers?

Thank you so much for all of your input. Unfortunately i am finding this more complicated than i imagined.

Without speaking Turkish i am at a loss as to how to find out if the local hospitals are equipped with ambulances and accept emergencies, does anyone have any ideas as to how i could possibly find out this info.

Sorry to be a pain.

Most villages of any size and certainly municipalities have day clinics with doctor (s) in attendance and a local ambulance service which serves the village. In our village the ambulance depot also acts as the out of hours emergency clinic with a doctor on stand by. Reckon we get faster response than in the UK

Becky i appreciate your anxiety but Turkey is well equipped to deal with emergencies...and asthma is as big a problem in Turkey as in the Uk

all the hospitals have ambulances..and every corner of Turkey has whats known as a Sağlık Ocağı..these are walk in medical centres run by the government and have access to ambulances also.

The hotel where you are staying is likely to know how to deal with getting help in an emergency.

İ know that asthma is not to be taken lightly but İ'm sure your partner will know how to control his condition since you have said an attack is unlikely..he will have the usual inhalers (reliever/preventive..and they have the same ones here..the treatment is the same)

the word for Asthma is ASTIM the word for an inhaler is Cihaz..although most people just say Astım Sprey

try and relax and have a good time
