National Insurance Contribution Records

My wife is Turkish and has been told that the contributions she made when living in the UK may be added to her SGK/Bağ-Kur contributions and count towards her retirement.

I've had a search online but am struggling to find the correct avenue in which to search.

Does anyone have any experience with obtaining records of NI contributions made in the UK?

Re: National Insurance Contribution Records

The way I interpreted it was the Turkish worker in the UK was able to transfer their NI contributions back to Turkey should they choose to go back home, the ones I know who have gone back home were professionals and prior to retirement in the UK.
It was also put to me that one of the reasons "Mehmet the waiter, wall builder etc" wants to get to the UK is to work for approximately 11 years with contributions, return home and transfer those contributions into the Turkish System at which point mid 40s he would get a Turkish Pension, This was explained to me years ago and I cant verify if any of it is true or ever was true although I believe it was when I was told it.

Re: National Insurance Contribution Records

I did this myself 6 weeks ago from a curiosity view point .
I waited 2 weeks for it to be sent In paper as a statement .
It has thrown up that in 2000 I paid nil NI and that I was informed and I chose not to pay .
So now the next stage was to try and get this corrected as I was employed with the same company throughout 1988 to today and that this work was PAYE and therefore it isn't missing .

They can't find the money ,the company has sent them all sorts of information to still say they can't find it .
It won't affect me personally but just through looking at this NI I discovered that so may be we should all just check before retireing

Don't know about this stuff as have not looked into it but perhaps a transfer of funds is different to a refund.

Re: National Insurance Contribution Records

Yes you can transfer your contributions, my husband did this from contributions paid in the TRNC and now he will be officially retired in March.

Re: National Insurance Contribution Records

You are not transferring any cash, just the years of entitlement that give you a state pension: there is nothing to cash-in.
Anyone who has an entitlement in the UK, who stopped contributing by moving abroad, can "top-up" their UK entitlement up to 35 years. But you have to calculate whether it is worth it i.e. how long you think you will live to get the top-up back.
If you have worked abroad contributing to a foreign scheme, the top-up is significantly less than the standard rate.

Re: National Insurance Contribution Records

Also check what they will pay on your retirement may be better than tranfering you entitlement. Fist step get a pension forecast.
