Re: SGK hospital charges for foreigners explained.

Thank you for the link. Very interesting and informative, especially YUPASS and the need for a baseline health check if one has not already been carried out.

Re: SGK hospital charges for foreigners explained.

As i understand in 2014 Turkey tried to make the UK join YUPASS and it was rejected by the powers to be. So why are we classed as second class citizens because we live in Turkey?

Probably because we dont want to offer the same service to Turks in case it encourages more health tourism.

Link doesn't work for me, just gives a blank page on the Kalkan site.

And what service would that be . Turks will not go to the uk for a crap health service when they have better at home .

Probably more to do with the bloody Conning conservatives not wanting to financially support British people who choose to live abroad.... Further examples can be seen by:-

1. Freezing the old age pension at the rate it was when you leave the UK - despite the fact that you may have paid a full stamp all your life!

2. Not allowing British Citizens to return home to GB for health care - despite the fact they may have paid a full stamp all your life.

3. Insisting that all public sector workers have to pay UK income tax on their work pension - regardless of the fact that they do not live in the UK or the fact that they can't access any of the public services or benefits that their tax payments are designed to fund.

4. Not allowing British Citizens to claim any form of benefit whilst living abroad - despite the fact that they may be declared as severely disabled and have no requirement to work or be available to work whilst living in the UK

And to top it off - some of us get caught in the grasp of all of these - something of a quadruple whammy. Thank God life is cheaper, better, safer & healthier in Turkey !

Re: SGK hospital charges for foreigners explained.

Not all state pensions are frozen, it depends where you emigrate to. All the EU area and many others get indexation. As far as I know it's Oz, Canada, NZ and SA which are mainly frozen. There's a list available on the relevant government website, here's a piece from the site.
https://www.gov.uk/state-pension-if-...-state-pension

How your pension is affected
Your State Pension will only increase each year if you live in:

the European Economic Area (EEA)
Gibraltar
Switzerland
countries that have a social security agreement with the UK (but you can’t get increases in Canada or New Zealand)
You won’t get yearly increases if you live outside these countries.

Your pension will go up to the current rate if you return to live in the UK.

Re paying benefits abroad, are you happy that we pay child benefit to EU people whose children are not in the UK, which is what happens at the moment? I was sent abroad for a while as a child (pre EU days) and my parents had to hand beck their child benefit book until I returned, yet immigrants of all nationalities who had made no contributions were eligible for benefits immediately on arrival to UK.
Governments dont have any money, only what is collected from taxpayers and loans/interest, and if you choose to live outside the UK that's your choice, not my subsidy to you. Iwant my government to look after us at home, don't you?

Re tax on a pension: if you have any kind of taxable income arising in UK and you leave permanently you should register yourself with the tax office as a non-dom and get your pension/whatever paid gross. The tax saving would probably cover the cost of SGK.
You may even be eligible for a small rebate on past overpayments.

If the expats are allowed treatment in the eu it should be like for like where ever you live if you are retired.

Re: SGK hospital charges for foreigners explained.

I live full time in Turkey, I do not pay UK tax and expect to get my pension, starting this year, tax free. I also expect to get annual increases as Turkey is on the list to get such increases.
