Re: Gas Fires

Hi susan
I live in Fethiye area, and would imagine that there is no such thing as back boiler gas fires, this is mainly due to the fact that mains gas is not readily available in Turkey for obvious reasons.

However, if you look at this link below, you may find alternative ways to heat the home. http://www.turkishliving.com/forums...26&page=2&pp=10

Re: Gas Fires

Hi Lorraine,

Thanks made a visit to the site and got loads of information for keeping warm in the winter months.

Phil (hubby) says have you got your central heating boiler in the house.

What sort of system did your friends have put in to pay gas charges of £40 for 20 hours.

Someone called Pete on one forum stated that he had used gas for his central heating but did not give any further details except for saying he used 3 large canisters with special cage.

Phil was impressed by your costs and information.

Sorry for asking loads of questions.

Have a nice day

This link gives good information as well Susan on all types of heating - if you haven't already seen it that is. Just about everything you could wish to know about anything is within this site - it is great and still building.

Re: Gas Fires

Susan,

We could have opted to have the boiler filtted inside the house, but I am all for space so opted to have it fitted in the depot at back of house along with the fuel tank. (it stands approx 4.5 ft high, 5ft wide with a depth of 4.5ft, with a shingle roof to match the balcony roofs, and painted the same colour as the house, hardly notice it) In the winter set it up for the temp that i need for heat and water, the electric cable runs through to our understairs and when i plug this in get instant hot water or the radiators back on, or just unplug, you can get indoor thermostats, but as the walls of Turkish builds are only one skin not worth while. but does depend on the layout of the property, whether is is open plan etc... very very rarely do i ever go back outside to the boiler.

We have an open fire, this is never used and we have a soba point in the house if we want to have one fitted.

Both of the above are messy, and you may have to redecorate the property once these have been used at the end of the winter season. the Soba has to be dismantled and cleaned through and then stored for the winter. open fires again only heat one room and are messy.

Central heating can be retro fitted to property if not all ready plumbed when built, this can cost a bit more, our Turkish neighbours have just had this retro fitted and thier house is very large, however, a very good job was made of this.

Many new properties have central heating installed with radiators and boiler, these are usually the gas type with canister that are caged, and they are very expensive to run, the gas output is very low, that is why it was costing them £40+ per canister. these are usually used in apartment with the bottles placed on a balcony, they are ok then as apartments are smaller or they are sandwiched between ofther apartments, or if you are only using for a few weeks holiday in the winter season, but would not recommend them for permanent living. So 3 canisters is £120+ and they do tend to get dearer every year! compared to our cost per year for comfort, there is just no contest.

Our system is Baymark, looking at the make and markings it apears that it is part of the Baxi company. maybe this is the Turkish equivilent. We had the service last year free as part of the gaurantee, this year before we fire it up again round about December for the evening only, it will cost us approx £30, but well worth it for peace of mind.

opps also forgot to mention the safety aspect of having diesel fuel, non combustible, unlike gas canisters etc...

Hi Lorraine,

Thanks for that full information on everything have read it all and will pass it on to Phil when he comes in for lunch.

We have all the pipe work in already so we are half way there.

One more little thing, who did you use to fit yours.

Re: Gas Fires

We approached Beko and the manager arranged everything, he also used his own men to build the depot. As this was done when we first got here and now know many other people we could have had it done much cheaper. I will try digging into my files to see who can do this and also ask my neighbours who did theirs and the cost.
I will email you when i find the info, but I have a memory like a sieve!! so remind me from time to time.

and now i am off ot the beach for a snooze!!

Not forgotten this one, just awaiting the neighbours to return to find out who did the retro fit for the central heating.
