he he - when I hear the word stove I relate it to cooking.
A great way of heating a room for the winter months yes! Wouldnt be without one myself. Generally, during winter Turks make the best of one room for all the family heating it with a wood burner.
Wood itself on its own is not an economical way of providing heat. The bucket that fits inside the burner IMO should be filled 3/4 with coal and then topped with wood. If prepared in the early evening, one bucketful will burn till morning.
This winter, coal was around 5YTL a bag.
A little word of caution. Deaths in Turkey from wood burning fires are reported almost daily during winter with whole families wiped out due to incorrect useage and failure to ensure the smoke has a clear passage out of the house.
It usually only takes the wind to change direction and you can easily find the room where the wood burner is situated is consumed with smoke. You can get a metal contraption fitted to the chimmney top which twirls round with the wind, but lets the smoke out efficiently.
Smoke detectors are not widely available in the provinces of Turkey. In the UK there are pennies, bring a couple with you and make sure you use them if you intend to use a wood burner.
Hope this helps!
