Turkish import regulations 2011

can someone sticky this? all the threads up to now haven't been as up to date as we needed info for. based on our own personal experience of moving here in the last 3 months...

new regulations state that one's goods must arrive no later than 1 month before or after your arrival. if it exceeds that you have to exit and re-enter the country.

TELEVISION ( SCREEN UPTO 51 cm ) : EURO 55.-
‘’ ( SCREEN 51 cm – 67 cm ) : EURO 85.-
‘’ ( SCREEN 67 cm – 85 cm ) : EURO 100.-
‘’ ( SCREEN 85 cm – 116 cm ) : EURO 120.-
‘’ ( SCREEN MORE THAN 116 cm ) : EURO 150.-
PORTABLE RADIO : EURO 25.-
VIDEO – VIDEO RECORDER – VIDEO CAMERA – DVD RECORDER : EURO
180.-
SATELLITE RECEIVER ( SKY BOX ) : EURO 70.-
TV – RADIO : EURO 95.-
TV-RADIO-CASSETTE DECK : EURO 130.-
TV – VCR : EURO 195.-
TV – RADIO – VCR : EURO 215.-
RADIO – WALKMAN : 10 EURO
PORTABLE RADIO – TURNTABLE : 36 EURO
PORTABLE RADIO – CASSETTE PLAYER : EURO 35.-
AUTO RADIO – CASSETTE PLAYER : EURO 35.-
AUTO RADIO – CD PLAYER : EURO 45.-
PORTABLE RADIO – CD PLAYER : EURO 45.-
RADIO – CASSETTE PLAYER : EURO 50.-
RADIO – CD PLAYER : EURO 70.-
RADIO TURNTABLE : EURO 70.-
RADIO – CASSETTE PLAYER – TURNTABLE : EURO 140.-
RADIO – CASSETTE PLAYER – TURNTABLE – CD PLAYER : EURO 180.-
RADIO – CASSETTE PLAYER – CD PLAYER : EURO 180.-
IF THERE IS ANYMORE RECEIVER(RADIO& TV & HOME THEATER SYSTEM )
THAN ABOVE EQUIPMENTS FOR EACH : EURO 180.-

There is also a tax of 20% for the total value of personal effects.

Money isn't the only pain in the neck, the bloomin' document requirements are complicated and long winded.

In a way, I wish we hadn't sent all of our stuff because it has cost us a whole lot more than we anticipated and very stressful!

Re: 2011 import regulations

Thanks for the information. How strange that in a Country where the currency is TL they charge in euro! After reading your updates, I would advise anyone thinking of shipping their stuff to Turkey to forget it and buy out here. Once again thanks.

Re: Turkish import regulations 2011

My advice to anyone moving over here is...Load up your car and drive, what wont fit in the car LEAVE BEHİND!
Dont bother bringing electrical goods, buy Turkish. The prices aren't really much different from the UK and at least if anything goes wrong you have a valid guarantee you can utilise. Furniture here is superb value and delivery times are normally days rather than months as in the UK. Just sell up in the UK and start fresh here.
Both times I drove over with a car full of stuff no-body at the border even blinked, let alone checked what was in the car to charge import tax.

For a stress free move, stick a tent and a camping stove in the car and just go!

Re: Turkish import regulations 2011

I understand what is being said about the prices not being very different from those here in the UK, but the wrench is having to dispose of your goods here for which you will not get anywhere near their value then having to repurchase the goods again on arrival in Turkey, which makes it another expensive part of the move.

I could understand why these tax's are imposed if the goods being taken into Turkey were new goods but for second-hand goods I think it's a bit over the top.

Re: Turkish import regulations 2011

I'm thinking of pulling all that money out again to buy new stuff, after buying it all here too. My hubby is Turkish so do you think he will be charged the same? We were thinking about driving our car there too but he has his leave to remain in this country but not his citizenship, so would he need visa's to get through all the different countries? Ah this is poop!

One thing you never see mentioned - for good reason as there aren't many around - is amateur radio, sometimes known as ham radio. As it happens, by printing 3 letters from Turkish Customs which are available easily on the net and showing them at the time of entry, there is NO duty payable. I brought in a few thousand pounds worth of equipment free of any charges.

Re: Turkish import regulations 2011

There used to be three letters but I see the Amateur Radio organisations are only listing two now. Well things do change as it's 7 years since I brought mine in and at the time I was advised by a Turkish amateur radio enthusiast who worked for the customs authorities.

Had problems posting this as I got a message saying I could not post links unless I have posted 15 messages or more.
