new member, needing advice

Hi everybody!
My name is Mick, me and my wife are flying to Turkey in a couple of weeks. We are hoping to buy a holiday home in Altinkum. We are new to all of this and would really appreciate some advice. We have arranged some viewings with My Turkish Home, Has anybody dealt with or heard of them? Can anyone recommend a good solicitor and how much should we expect to pay for one? Is there anything we should be aware of? Sorry for all the questions, but although we are excited, we are also worried sick about something going wrong, you hear so many bad stories. I would be very grateful for any advice you have. Cheers Mick.

Hi Mick,

Welcome to the forum, the buying process is quite easy in Turkey, sometimes seems to easy. A lot of the running around is done by the estate agent there, so it's important to use a good agent.

Have not dealt with My Turkish Home, so unfortunatly can't comment on them, maybe someone else can give some info on them? I have used Sunset Homes and they have been very good.

What kind of property are you looking for? Any budget in mind? and Why Altinkum?

Thanks Speedy, we will give him a try.

Hi Mushtaq, we are looking for an apartment/villa with a shared pool, we can spend up to £40,000. We have never been to Altinkum ourselves, but it has been recommended by several friends who have been there for holidays, also it seems to have the type of properties we are interested in, within our price range, judging by the websites we have looked at.

Hi Mick, welcome to the forum, I'm only a newbie here myself & so, don't feel qualified to give any advice, except to say that this is an excellent forum for people interested in buying property in Turkey. You are slightly ahead of me in that you are actually going out to do the business in two weeks, I'm still at the looking on the internet stage, but have found some good contacts from this forum, once my brother & myself have the finance in -place, we too will be going over to buy. I hope you find a great place.
Best Of Luck
Dave

Hi Mick
Welcome to the site.We have bought through turkish homes and oracle and i can reccomend both of these. Also as Mushtaq has said sunset homes, did not buy through them but i would if i bought again.
We bought our first property 18 months ago and have seen the prices increase quite a lot.
When i was last over in August i was looking at places for a friend of mine and for 40,000 i would imagine you would get a nice apartement but not a villa, the cheapest villa's i saw for her were 60,000.
However if you spaek to speedy i believe he has some that start at 50,000 or 55,000.
I would say to you that not all agents update thier sites regually and so the prices are not acurate when you actually get out there.
Good luck and if you need any questions answered please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks Dave, The reason I joined the forum is because we haven't got a clue what we are doing, the only thing we do know is what type of property we want! There are a lot of websites offering advice but they all seem to contradict each other, eg; a few of them have said there is no need for a solicitor and others say that it is a must. Hopefully I will be able to give you some advice when I return. Where are you thinking of buying, by the way?
Mick.

Hi Sharron,
Thank you very much for the advice, I thought some of the properties on some websites looked a bit [u]too</u> cheap. We will definately have a look at the agents you recommended. Where in Turkey did you buy?
Thanks again, Mick.

Hello Mick

We bought our place last January and I understand all your emotions believe me. We have not bought in Altinkum but more than anything it is your agent you have to trust and be comfortable and do go on recommendations.

It is a bit scary but it is exciting and worthwhile and we are chuffed with our place. I researched a lot on the internet and I agree with Sharron, do not accept the prices are as shown. I e-mailed and checked before I went and still the price went up when we got there (I didn't buy and I didn't like the agent). Interestingly the house is still on the web site 8 months later.

Choose your agent, stick to your agreed budget and enjoy the roller-coaster ride.

Hi Teresa,
It is really reassuring to hear of success stories like yours, quite a few times we have asked ourselves if we are doing the right thing and when we hear from people who have done it with no regrets, it makes us more positive about the whole thing.
Thanks, Mick

Hi Mick,we bought through Golden Sun Homes and although you'll read that some people have had some problems with them we found them to be very professional. They arranged for a solicitor for us and also an interpreter and on returning to the U.K. they kept us well informed via e-mails.Any time we e-mailed them with any queries they were always quick to reply. The solicitor they took us to was the one that speedy recommends Nadir Turk.Good luck on your house hunting, hope you get what you want.MIA.[8D]
