Hi everyone

*waves*

My name's Sue (yes, another one!) Just thought it was about time I introduced myself. I've been lurking here ever since I came back from Turkey in October last year and fell in love with the country and its people.

I had such a wonderful holiday that I decided almost immediately to book another holiday and go back - and have been to Turkey twice this year (so far!). In fact I'm considering taking some time out of my career to move out next year so will be keen to hear from people who've taken this daunting step already, and to hear the negatives and plus points.

I've mainly been around the Bodrum peninsula (Yalikavak) but have also been on a gulet a couple of times - the last one we sailed around the Marmaris/Fethiye area. I love being on the boats. Hope to go again in September.

I've found this forum extremely informative especially about Yalikavak (there doesn't seem to be much information out there on this lovely village which, I gather, is growing by the year). Went to a number of restaurants while I was out there end of June/beg July including Dede's and Morgul Antik (Sue, forgive me for being so informal! - we had a lovely meal in your restaurant and were told you were back in the UK - we wandered passed many times afterwards and spotted you once, we couldn't stop but we did say hello and waved!)

Anyway, I've rattled on enough. Hello again and I hope to join in more....

Sue

Re: Hi everyone

Hi Susie and welcome to the forum. You will find that it is very addictive, full of good information and help, plus a generous helping of banter.

We moved over here almost 4 years ago, giving up everything in the UK. However, we are retired, so perhaps our circumstances are different from yours. We have no regrets at having moved here.

Welcome Sue i'm sure you'll like it here.
Are you picking up any Turkish language,
as it helps, just the few basic words are
appreciated and well worth it.

Enjoy all your holidays in Turkey and
remember if you ever need some-one to talk
to, there's always some-one on the Forum.

Re: Hi everyone

Thanks for the lovely welcome guys!

Joan: I will be following my dream there's no doubt about it! Good luck with yours.

Sue: I can't remember the names of the waiters unfortunately - but the one who wears the bandana looked after us very well - he had only been working at your restaurant a matter of a few weeks I think.

Andy: yes I've picked up a few Turkish words and phrases already and used them quite a bit whilst over there (which always got a nice reaction when I did!). I've downloaded a very basic package called Before You Know It which helped with simple words and phrases. I'm also planning on taking Turkish lessons in October at a language school in London.
