Hi All

I am sure I have "Virtually" met some of you over at Calis Beach or on Holiday Truths, but if not, my name is George and with my wife, Chris, we own a house on Serinkent Sitessi on Calis Beach. We have had our home there for 2 years now and it's our pride & joy.

We get over to Calis 2 or 3 times a year as we still both have to work to make ends meet ! but that will change in just over 9 years time when we can retire ( not that we are counting !!! )and spend a lot more time there.

Can I say a big thanks to Mushtaq for creating this site and allowing me to advertise our villa in the rentals section.

Speak to you all soon no doubt.

Rimms

Hello Rimms,

Welcome to the forum, please share your experiances of renting your property, as a few members are thinking about the pros and cons of renting out their property in Turkey.

And feel free to add some of your pictures in the Album, send me a mug shot to put as your avatar.

Our rental experience has been very good so far, our house is proving to be very popular, we are already almost full for next year and have bookings into 2006.

We have worked hard to make the house a real home rather than a "typical" holiday rental property, we have a good property management agent who does a great job at looking after our guests and we have a web site to show the facilities we offer.

The rest is just down to networking, however, the one piece of advice I would give is don't buy and have to depend on rental income, rental income then becomes a bonus and it's great to re invest this back into improving your property.

Good luck and have fun.

Hi Rimms

Welcome to this lovely friendly forum, tell us what you know as we (I) am very nosey. I have never been to Calis but will do one day. We are in the same situation as you, have bought a place but can't go and live there yet, can't seem to get rid of the kids!!

Hi Gail,

Spooky you should reply, when we set off on our adventure 2 years ago to buy our place in the sun, we had done loads and loads of research and we had planned to buy at Olive Grove Village, which is where I thought you were until I looked at your web site. The Olive Grove we had planned is up in the mountains in a village called Ovacik, near Hisaronu & Olu Deniz.

The funny thing was that in the end we never even got up to Olive Grove, we looked at a number of properties and when we pulled up outside our house, Chris, my wife said " this is the one " at this point we had not even got inside and as usual, a womans intuition proved to be spot on.

We love our house in Calis, at present it is still a very Turkish place, although there is an awful lot of private build going on, our small complex are mostly Turkish families who look after us and are always passing in Turkish food and treats. Last year they held a full Turkish wedding in our gardens, it was fantastic.

Our nearest town is Fethiye ( 50,000 people ) which we reach by water taxi, it is a great jouney in, a beautiful bay, back drop of mountains and amazing rock toombes. Fethiye is a market harbour town which still caters for the local population rather than the tourist, thank god the big golden M or KFC have not yet discovered Fethiye.

If you ever get down to Calis there will be a cold Efes or two in the fridge for you both. Nice to hear from you.

Oh Rimms, it sounds wonderful, we are also on a small complex (11 villas) and we are the only Brits there, we absolutely love it. We are hoping to be out there between 2-5 years full time, need to work a bit longer to get more pennies. I think a lot of people on this forum are planning on doing the same thing. I'm just glad we bought when we did (2 yrs ago) as we wouldn't be able to afford what we wanted if we had left it too long. There are still some great bargains to be had over there but for how much longer I don't know. Our old boss has just gone over to stay in our place for a couple of months and he has bought in a little village (gumusluk) he has bought a 2 bed apart 300 mtrs from the sea for 20 grand, he's absolutley delighted with it. I think he only bought there so that I will look after him when he's old and crotchety (he already is lol).

We will hold you to those cold efes.

Hi Rimms
Can i correct you on a part of your post, quote: Calis, at present it is still a very Turkish place, : end quote
Calis is getting more and more english every day, soon the only turkish people there will be barmen, waiters & shop assistants.
That is why we have moved to Koycegiz, it is typically Turkish and i think it will remain that way.
