Another Newby
Hello all, this appears to be a very friendly and informative forum. I'm flying out to Altinkum on Sunday 23 October with Husbund and 2 daughters. Firstly I wondered if any of you could suggest something 'special' for husbund as it's his birthday on the monday following arrival and I want to take him somewhere to mark the occasion, anywhere that serves a good food with good company. All suggestions gratefully recieved.
Also I will be looking to see if its viable to buy an apartment that would suit our family. We both work full time in England but wish to invest our (little) spare cash in a property. What would your suggestions be, do you think a complex would be best and safe to leave for many weeks of the year. I would expect friends and family to wish to go also but obviously that's ages away. I'll be tempted to scan around whilst I'm there but should I avoid and go through an internet company.Help, it's a minefield. We like a bit of peace and quiet so wouldn't like to be right in the thick of it but also would wish for facilities e.g supermarkets. Oh also I have never been to Turkey before but I feel there is 'something' in the air and it's all a bit meant to be. I'll shut up now!!!!, Cheers Mali (I'm not really cosmic, just think you should live life a bit)

Re: Another Newby.
Mali
we purchased an apartment on a complex in Altinkum in May (Have been back once in August) and are flying out on 24th October for a week. There are many places to choose from as you know but the idea of a complex appealed to us due to security, facilities (2 pools, bar and restaurant), courtesy bus to beach 4/5 times a day.
Email us if you want further information on who we purchased with - so far they have been brilliant.
Happy hunting
John and Irene

Re: Another Newby.
Mali welcome to the forım and hope you enjoy your visit. You say you havent been here before so the advice İ am going to give you is this Have a gentle look around for property, but do some other research whilst you are here, make sure you lıke Turkey first and then have a look at possible areas. Then when you get home again do lots more research before you commit to buy its a big decision for anyone. Dont let any agent (and yes İ am one) twist your arm ınto committing before you are certain. Also be aware that the law allowing you to buy is suspended at the moment and we are all waiting for a new ammendment so you have time to research. Best of luck with it and enjoy.

Thanks Bryn, I'll take your advice and thanks for replying. Can you tell me what this law is and what it entails, will there be any new legislation that I'll need to be aware of? Cheers Mali

Hoş geldiniz............Lots of different threads on the the current position regarding the new law and its implications.. suggest you use the search button. Good luck in your venture and enjoy your holiday... remeber it is all too easy to lose lazy days if you start apartment searching ... suggest you deicate a cetrtain amount of time to this and no more.. do as Bry suggests. Holidays are for lazing... relaxing...

Re: Another Newby.
mali to save you trawling through the forums a very basic run down of the land law is this: from 2003 there was an ammendment to Turkish law which eased the way for foriegners to buy land here, although it was possible before that but very much harder. This ammendment was suspended effective on 27th july this year, and we are all now awaiting the new ammendment to be placed on the statute which will allow purchases to go through. There is a lot of speculation and gossip as to what the new ammendment will say you can or cant buy. informed opinion is that it will differ little from the original ammendment in most aspects but will probably limit the size of land you can own to 15000m2, which will not affect the average buying client. However there are no garauntees as to what it will say therefore it is best to be cautious at the moment until the new ammendment is published, notwithstanding it is still possible to go and view and do some research but be very careful about committment to a contract that may require you to pay for a property that you may not be able to legally own. Like İ said originally do some gentle research now and wait to see what happens and still enjoy.
