New Member looking to purchase!

Hi All

Found this site today after a couple of weeks surfing Altinkum sites. Must say really pleased to many seasoned homeowners giving good advice. We haven`t been in Turkey for some 6 years now so suppose it`s changed quite a bit. We first visited Kusadasi some 17 years ago when the TL was about 180 to the pound! We have now decided to purchase somewhere and have narrowed it down to the Altinkum area. Still undecided between Altinkum and Akbuk. We think an apartment may be better to be left unnopccupied most of the year but feel as if we would prefer a villa somewhere quiter like Akbuk but worried about the security aspect. Would appreciate any advice from anyone.

Hi Mike & Gay. Welcome to the forum plus your choice of area to put down new roots! Karen & I have a Villa in Altinkum but soon to sell for Land and a bungalow(hopefully) in Akbuk It all depends on requirements and life style. If its only a holiday home then security can be an issue but if you buy a Villa with good neighbours maybe they will police it for you?? For serenity & beauty Akbuk for conveience & facilities Altinkum... You and only you can make that choice dont let the grass grow under your feet as this year you will see prices escalate even further.
Duke

ps If you have any niggling doubts email me for any answers or ask any one on open forum

Hi Mike and Gay,

welcome to the forum, I would recommend Akbuk, you can find some pictures in my Album, a nice panoramic view of Akbuk www.byteshop.co.uk/akbuk

A few of us have properties in Akbuk, including me (I have some for sale too, email me your requirements and I can find something suitable)

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum, there's always a lot of talk about security (I presume you'll be well insured!) Grills on windows and doors seem to be the most popular, some properties I've seen have those 'tomb' shutters as I call them.

Rick, it depends on the layout of the villa and the plot size.

As for security, on our site of about 200 villas, they have two resident security guards, and the site is surrounded by a high wire fence.

None of the villas have any grills, and I have not heard of any problems there.

A lot depends on the location of your property, in towns you can get the opportunist thief who might just try it if its easy.

Around our area, they will need to have a car and know what they were looking for, as the houses are not so close together, Akbuk is lot more open and low rise, there are no apartment blocks.

Hi Mike and Gay and welcome to the forum. We haven't got grills but we have got security in a small gated sitesi. I really don't wan t the grills but if I was to hear of crime in our area (Turgutreis) I would have to re-think.

There are people on here who sell property, Mushtaq, Speedy(Paul) and Eileen. Then there is Anna one of the forum members who is selling her lovely duplex for £28 thousand, there is a picture of it on here somewhere.

Look forward to your posts and good luck in your search

Gail
