Newbie

Hello everyone,

I have been living in Ankara for the past 10 years and am considering moving to Izmir for my son's education, he is 5 years of age.

We are considering the likes of the American college in Izmir or similar - any opinions good or bad would be helpful.

Also a suitable area to live - priority being access to school.

Hi Eshek, welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't help with your query but I'm sure you will get lots of information from others in the Izmir area.

Re: Newbie

moving to izmir will be the best thing you can do for him, there are more options in izmir than any other city in turkey about private minority schools. (istanbul is an exception)

But i mean not only about education. İzmir has its own way of living, very much different than ankara.

you will all like it here.

wellcome!

Re: Newbie

in izmir there are several minority schools. American and french ones are quite popurlar.

American

French

there is also italian, german, greek, austrian, etc... cultural centers, some of them also offer preschool education and day care for children.

of course to make any decision you have to come around , visit the school, meet the teachers and managers. best way to start can be visiting the cultural centers which will redirect you to the relevant schools.

but the important thing i believe is; your child will never be abused because he is a foreigner in izmir.

Even Mr. Erdogan once underlined izmir as "gavur" izmir; meaning "not muslem". he actually tried to offend people of izmir , since our way of life is not acceptable for their way of thinking; but after consideration people recognized that it is a fluttery achieved by the peacefull, understanding, tolerant, embracing people of izmir.
