Hello!!!

i am using my fathers account and i am seeking some advice.. my name is Sevgi and i am 18 years old, born in australia, melbourne.
my current situation at the moment is that my family and i have moved to turkey recently (having it been 3 weeks) from australia. im having trouble adapting to Turkey's cultural side and in need of an answer to my question; is there a place in turkey that is some what similar to Australia? the area as well as the people?..
next week, we will be driving from Selcuk to Fetihe just to look for a place that holds the same similarities of the english spoken folks.

thanks in advance.

Re: Hello!!!

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I've never been to Australia but I do have relatives living there, and some Turkish friends recently emigrated to Sydney. I don't think you'll find anywhere in Turkey that is similar to Australia in terms of culture, landscape or society. However there are plenty of nice places where it's easier to adapt to local life. If you're living in Selcuk at the moment I can understand your issues, have you visited Cesme? It's a really nice working tourist resort, ferries travel across to Greece for island hopping if you're into travel. There aren't so many foreign residents but the place feels multicultural and there are plenty of high society Istanbul Turks ensuring it stays modern and developed.
Some of the Bodrum villages could suit you too.
Other than that I can't think of anywhere. I have Turk/Australian friends in North Cyprus. Maybe take a look there too...

Let us know what you discover,

Charlotte

Re: Hello!!!

thanx a lot for quick reply.
i already loving this forum and it's actually feels very good talking to people with similar common cultural background.
i totally aware of that turkey is nothing like Australia or another european country.
i've been visiting turkey with my parents since i was a child.but it never felt like home.
me and my sister (15 years old)we both homesick.mising our life we've left behind.
my dad see and understand our feelings and he actually suggested that we can move somewhere else in turkey where we us girls might just a bit feel like home.

we just need a suggestion about the places where some people came from similar culture and speaks english.

If you are going to Fethiye then check out Calis Beach, there's a large ex-pat community there.

Insensitive remark to make to an 18 year old girl who feels homesick.

Stick with the advice given by Teosgirl.
Bodrum,I've always found to be very multicultural.

Re: Hello!!!

Have you checked out Istanbul? A modern lively place, obviously depends on your parent's need regarding work etc. Well worth a look in my opinion.

Hi & welcome!!! I've been to Australia many times & my daughter lived in Sydney for 15 years!! No ones mentioned Didim area to you & there IS a large mix of Brits living in Altinkum, Mevashir & Akbuk .. Of course the numbers swell in the summertime & due to being Brit orientated the prices are in Sterling & Lire!!! Good social life there plus as your English is so good you would not be without employment !!! The sister forum to this absolutleyaltinkum has lots of info!! Worth a shufty !! Feel free to ask as many questions as you like we are a very friendly Family here & on the other one!!
Keep your chin up Happiness is around the next corner !!
