Sustainable Visas for property owners in Turkey

According to media speculation, there may be an implementation in Turkish policy that foreigners may have the legal right to hold a long term visa or indeed Turkish citizenship in the future. Now that Erdogan has gained power do you think that this will happen? As a property owner who adores the country and the culture, I wonder if there is anything we can do to instigate this?

Care to say where you read such speculation?

Re: Sustainable Visas for property owners in Turkey

Both are available now, surely? The long term visa (residency) is open for anyone after a qualifying period, and anyone can apply for citizenship.

Are we talking about something different?

That's quite correct Ian.
Long Term residency is available to Foreigners that have had Residency visas for 8 years. They cost just 55 Lira at this time and they allow for a little time having been spent outside of Turkey during that 8 years. I'm not certain how many weeks they allow but it's not a lot. Long Term Residency being issued now are valid til 2099.

Turkish Citizenship has always been available to Non-Turks providing you meet the requirements. I've had my Citizenship 15 years now. Even though I divorced my Turkish husband almost 10 years ago, my Citizenship remains valid, enabling me to remain in Turkey as I always intended to, work, pay taxes etc in the same way a natural born Turk does.

Re: Sustainable Visas for property owners in Turkey

Whilst agreeing with everything Immac & Freedom 49 has said, I think the OP was alluding to something else, which is why I asked for more information as to where the "media speculation" came from!

Re: Sustainable Visas for property owners in Turkey

The only other thing I can recall hearing something about last year was automatic citizenship/residency with property purchases. Then it all went quiet and was not mentioned again. Feeling at the time seemed to be that it was to encourage Arab investors. Where did that go?

Re: Sustainable Visas for property owners in Turkey

It was mention before the elections last November

I think it was related to property purchases over $1 million USD

Re: Sustainable Visas for property owners in Turkey

You don't have to show money in the bank if you can show proof of income. A friend of ours showed proof of a pension (from the UK and it had to be translated and the translation then notarised). 500 a month was enough

If she going to show the bank account details they wanted to see records going back over 6 months.
