Re: Islam and Depiction

This is all very fine people but it is not helping my understanding of Islam, depiction and photography.

[By the way, there was a post between what is now my two in-a-row that was deleted. It was from Hayabuse for another thread on buying a car.]

A post was moved not deleted to appropriate thread. Sometimes Users accidentally post in wrong thread whilst viewing another. The post was related to 'car purchase without RP', so I have moved there.

On second thoughts perhaps the thread may have got round to that too

Here is the post still on this forum in a different thread:-

car purchase in Turkey without residence permit?

Re: Islam and Depiction

I think tintagel explained the situation pretty well, I also wondered about this question, my understanding is that directive was meant to stop people making idols to worship. As usual some people have taken the message as litaral and lost the meaning behind it.

There is so much idol worship going on in the Muslim world, just look at SA the supposedly guardians of Islam (no one gave them that job) the leader's pictures are all over the place, and they are worshipped, same can be said for most Muslim countries.

So most people don't follow that directive to the letter but for some reason other directives they do follow to the letter. I suppose that's why there is confusion, and people need to lose up a little or at least be consistent.

Islam in my opinion should be tought by means of discussion and explanation not by rote and dictated as is in most parts of the world. There should be room for interpretation in alignment with our modern society without losing it's intended meaning.

Yes when we take communion it is entitled The Body of Christ, but that is just a title, it is a symbol, nothing more, we do not believe in transubstantiation.

Haven't read anything about taking a picture of images that have existed for century's being banned anywhere.

The link I posted (5) made it pretty clear to me that it's a bit like the Catholic church changing the rules on Priests & celibacy - It was Not, always thus, men have made these changes. It doesn't take a genius to understand why that would be...... Change the rules to fit their own purposes, Power, Control - However genuine or real the original concept/belief was - Men (& a few women ) have put their own slants on them...... (IMO)

"First Century
Peter, the first pope, and the apostles that Jesus chose were, for the most part, married men. The New Testament implies that women presided at eucharistic meals in the early church."
