UŞAK – Doğan News Agency
A 77-year-old man, furious about having to stand in queue to withdraw money from his bank account, pointed his gun at a bank teller and demanded service yesterday in the province of Uşak, 200 kilometers east of İzmir.
Lütfü Ölmez and his wife, 76-year-old Neslihan Ölmez, went to their local bank to withdraw YTL 40 from their joint bank account. After waiting in line for a while, a teller told them that both their identification cards were required for them to be able to withdraw money.
Angry at having wasted his time queuing up, Ölmez returned home and took his wife's ID card and his gun that was loaded with blank cartridges.
He then returned to the bank and joined the queue again. After waiting for a considerable amount of time, he removed his gun and pointed it at the teller, using his other hand to prop himself up with his cane.
It didn't take long for the security guards to disarm him and hand him to the police.
The 77-year-old was shouting, “they are just playing games with me. I've been trying to withdraw YTL 40 since the morning” as he was led away to the police station.
After questioning, Ölmez was released on the prosecutor's directive. "
