Re: Cesme...Alacati...
Sorry it's a bit late but I've only just joined the forum.
There is a castle to visit near the sea front in Cesme itself. There are thermal springs that come out from under the sea in Ilica harbour. The town of Alacati has many old buildings and a busy market on a Saturday. The harbour in Dalyan Koy is very picturesque.
Don't eat out much but as far as I know the local expats go to the Star bar (behind the church) and the No Problem bar a bit further along from the castle (to the left if you're looking at the sea).

Re: Cesme...Alacati...
Been to Cesme twice and other areas too but Cesme beats them hands down in our opinion - just recently returned and now decided to retire there so will be back real soon - cesme is lovely - great harbour, great people, not as cheap as other areas in Turkey but hey its just lovely. Star Bar, Corner Bar and the white house plus the one close to it are all good eating places. No problem bar for your Uk ex pats. try tyhe lamp chops and the sardines yummy (not together tho)
we are looking to buy a property there very soon, but may rent for a short while to get the better prices during the winter season.

Re: Cesme...Alacati...
I agree with you about Cesme, a lovely place to live. I've lived in the area for many years and I think your idea of renting for a while is very sensible as the difference between summer and winter is very marked and what seems a lovely quiet spot out of season suddenly gets blasted by music from a beach bar that is over 1km away if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction.
If you need any help from another retired expat send me a PM.

Many thanks for your reply - sadly we have decided against the move, well at least for the moment - in the main due to the worrying responses from some contributors.............

Don't let people put you off. There are many people living happy lives here. You just have to be sensible and not too trusting of people who become your best buddy overnight.

Re: Cesme...Alacati...
Now the summer season is upon us the Alacati market has grown even bigger. You need a lot of stamina to see it all. It's a good idea to go fairly early as it gets very crowded after 11am and it can get very hot under the awnings and umbrellas, especially if there isn't a breeze, not a common occurence I know, but the wind does sometimes drop. Take a bottle of water with you to drink.

Re: Cesme...Alacati...
I went there a few years ago on a house hunting mission with Place in the Sun magazine. I liked it and Alacati would have been a brilliant place for my windsurfing maniac of a husband. However at that time the houses were very much more expensive than where I eventually bought and I found the lack of mountains and the rather bleak landscape not really to my taste. Of course that bleak windswept area would have been just up husbands street. I liked the village of Alacati and there were some great antique shops. I hadn't realised though that the village itself was some way from the beach and that buying a house near a beach was difficult, well there weren't any at the windsurfing beach. Cesme was a nice place and we enjoyed the market and some good restaurants. I would have liked to see the castle but there wasn't time what with having to have about a squillion photos taken looking at houses!! We're planning another trip there one day, this time with husband in tow so that at least he can get a couple of blasts on a windsurfer.
So in answer to what do you do there - windsurfing is a must, it's one of the best places in the world for it.
