wedding dresses
Hi guys...
Has anyone ever bought a wedding dress from izmir??? I know the place i have to go but just wondered if anyone had had any experiance on it??
I went to the consulate yesterday and to be honest i was really shocked as when i looked at the banns on the wall there were 50year old women marrying 19yr old turkish men i mean surely this is not normal right!!???
Any advice on how much they cost etc would be useful too (dresses that is!!)

Re: wedding dresses
Hi Lottie,
Dont know anything about wedding dresses from Izmir but have heard good reports of women getting wedding dresses made for them at a fraction of the uk price :-)
Yes I was in Izmir last week and I too looked at the Bans - Shocking? YES - Normal? unfortunately for Turkey, YES!
Lots of luck with yours :-) x

Re: wedding dresses
I am sure we saw a wedding dress shop in Bodrum last summer. It was up by the bus station. If you are coming out of the bus station to the cross roads it was down the road that turns left instead of going down the main drag. Mind you they had some very strange outfits in the window for boys but also wedding dresses too.

Re: wedding dresses
Hi Lottie,
They have some beautifull wedding dresses in the shops in Izmir Bazaar.
We were looking at them about a fortnight ago in the sort of dress section of the bazaar.
You can get a lovelly dress for the fantastic cheap sum of approx 250 ytl there are some more expensive ones but the shop we were looking in they were all approx 250ytl.
Almost wished i was getting married lmao.
just ask somebody where the bazzaar is and then the sort of dress makers bit.
Good luck.

Lottie
When you were in Izmir yesterday you should have gone to the Wedding Show at the International Fuar; it's in the same district as the Consulate. Mavi and I were there yesterday, and the range of dresses was enormous, not to mention gorgeous little tiaras (for as little as £5), veils, shoes etc.
In the Kemeralti district of Izmir where all the wedding shops are, they can make your dress for you in a week.

Re: wedding dresses
Hi Lottie,
when I got married I went to our local department store in Dalaman. It is a tiny old fashioned place but they have a little section upstairs for wedding dresses. I was expecting to have very little choice but it they turned out to have lots of brochures. I found one I liked but wanted sleeves in it. No problem, they said. I was measured up and 10 days later it arrived, having been made in Izmir. The dress I chose was a 2-piece (most of them are) with a beautifully hand beaded bodice with a fairly plain skirt. Fortunately it fitted perfectly, otherwise it would have gone back for alterations. From what I remember it cost around 300 or 350YTL, which I didn't think was bad for a hand-made dress which had been made to measure.

Re: wedding dresses
If you do want a made to measure dress, I can highly recommend a lady living in Gumbet. She has just made my friends wedding dress, and she did it in a week! She is English, so no problem with the language barrier, and she is
not expensive either.
