How can i live in Izmir???
Hi I’m a 19 year old male. I currently live in the UK; my parents are Turkish originally from Istanbul. I speak perfect English and quite good Turkish. I recently decided to move to Istanbul for 1 year until I realised how expensive property is to rent there. So I looked into Izmir and decided that it was a perfect place as weather is always nice and rentals are so much cheaper. I want to make the move next summer and have been looking at several apartments on the Hurriyet emlak to get ideas of what is available. But my only problem now is what job can I do? I need enough money to pay for rent and to pay for food, bills etc... I don’t live extravagantly so I don’t need the best paid job, but I do want a apartment of my own as I don’t like the thought of shared accommodation. I have done previous work as a receptionist for a second hand car garage, and I have also worked as an IT administrator. But my best skill is web design which is what I hope to do as a full time career in the future. If none of these jobs are available do you have any suggestions???
Thanks

As your parents are Turkısh do you have dual natıonalıty?
If you dont your best bet would be to apply for ıt and get yourself a Kımlık. Thıs wıll enable you to work anywhere.

Hi Deniz
Will you be doing your military service if you're going to be living here?

Welcome, Deniz, to the forum. Have seen posts from others suggesting that there are plenty of vacancies for English language teachers. Have you considered getting a TEFL or CELTA qualification?

Re: How can i live in Izmir???
i think as a Turk arent you obliged to do Military service..? wherever you live..even if its just for about 3 months. Remember Tarken..who was born and lives in Germany had to come over and do Military service..albeit just for about 3 months...has the law been changed?

Re: How can i live in Izmir???
If you have dual nationality you will have to do Military Service, unless you can show you have done the same in your 'other' country - which you can't, I guess. If you have dual nationality you do not need a work permit.
If you don't have Turkish citizenship, then you can't work - or at least not as easily as you had hoped: Catch-22.
