Hello Jean and welcome to Turkish Living....

I have been to Çesme a few times and always had a great time.

For anyone that doesnt know, Çesme lies west of Izmir and it means
fountain, probably derived from the many sources of water found in the area.

It is one of Turkey's most beautiful stretches, surrounded by clear blue seas, with landscapes of aniseed, sesame and artichokes dotted with fig and gum trees. There is many unspoilt bays where you can swim in absolute peace and there is plenty of holiday accommodation, restaurants and entertainment facilities.

Its also possible also to get to Greek island Chios (Sakiz) with regular daily ferries. Çesme has an international harbour linked to Izmir with a superb highway and its only 80km.

Dalyan, a fishing village, built on a sheltered deep water inlet just north of Çesme, has some of the region's best fish restaurants which border the quay of the very lively marina.

Its a lovely area and I am sure you will be very happy with a purchase in Çesme.

Merv!

Re: introductory question

Just come back from our second holiday in cesme ..we love it. They say the rich turks from Izmir holiday here ..many have holiday homes .. but we were enquiring about apartments for about 44 thousand pounds ... lots of english and irish buying properties ..well they will be again once the restrictions are lifted.
Lovely combination of interesting old town ..lovely bays within a dolmus ride ..cool breeze in the summer and wonderful port with local boat trips as well as trips to Chios which you can see across the bay ..and you can get to venice by boat from there! Some lovely little restaurants ..try ..The star ... Imren ..great turkish food ...Olive tree very popular with tourists .. `No problem bar` by the harbour seems to be a mine of local information ..!
no drunken brits rampaging in the evenings .we are certainly smitten!
Enjoy!
