Thumbs up Ro-Ro ferry trips

TDN

IZMIR - ''Ro-Ro ferry trips will start between Cesme Port (of Aegean city of Izmir) and Bari or Brindisi ports of Italy,'' said Tamer Taskin, Chairman of Industry Chamber of Aegean Region (EBSO), on Monday.
Holding a news conference on Turkish-Italian Business Forum which was held last week, Taskin said that investments on Aegean region were also discussed in the meeting.

''Officials signed a project on Ro-Ro trips during the Forum. The trips will start as of January, 2006,'' said Taskin.

He noted, ''the project was developed for local administration of south Italy and it aims to improve commercial and cultural relations in eastern Mediterranean, as well as bilateral relations. Italian entrepreneurs established ITALRO-RO company. This company will start Ro-Ro ferry trips between Cesme and Bari or Brindisi ports of Italy 3 days a week, as of January 2006.''

Taskin noted, ''meanwhile, workshops will be held in Izmir and Italy in March. Within that scope, Italian entrepreneurs from industries such as furniture, shoe, packaging, grape, wine and viticulture will visit Izmir.''

Re: Ro-Ro ferry trips

Hey, I misseds this first time around. How fun is this?

I remember back when....there used to be a ferry from the Aegean to Italy. there were several vessels, but the "TRUVA" is the one that sticks out. I loved seeing that ship come into port in Izmir.

Another thing I absolutely loved as a teen was the Teaching ship that came to port once or twice a year. I thought it would be so much fun to have a semester on the high seas. We werent ever allowed anywhere near it though, that probably made it even more mysterious. But we would watch it come in, watch the kids being loaded on buses. Im sure they went to places like Ephesus and Mary;s house, but I sure felt like i was missing out on something.
Anyone know anything about this traveling schools on ships? I would love to send my daughter on trip for a term.

Canim, thanks for posting about this great event, I will definately have to go to cesme and check it out. But, i wonder wh they are docking in cesme instead of Izmir>???
